Maybe a retail release for Wii? Again, Team Meat was interested in it but couldn't find a publisher. Rayman had no such problem. In that case they would've had to skip the Wii, which they probably thought would be a bad idea.
That aside if they cared so much about the franchise, Ubisoft wouldn't have released that abysmal Rayman 2 port for the 3DS.
That's a bit misleading though, Nintendo DS is an established brand in 2011, which wasn't the case in 04-05. The sales for the 3DS are fine, but I don't see them ramping up the same way they did with the DS, I don't think the 3DS will ever sell 3 million in a month.

For Rayman they should have offered exclusivity to one of the console makers in exchange for help with marketing. Nintendo or Microsoft seems like the two good choices, probably Nintendo because they need exclusives and this kind of game matches up with their audience.
i dont think marketing was the problem
In hardcore gaming there is definitely a trend towards these big blockbuster type games and this NPD shows that it is getting stronger. More and more resources are going to be going towards making these even bigger and better as next generation rolls around.

And a PC version, I hope. I'd buy it again in spite of horrible, horrible Ubisoft.Only a matter of time before they announce the iOS version.
Sadly, this is true.
It's either AAA or don't even show up, and it will be even more apparent next generation with higher production values.
Didn't it say somewhere that Sonic Generations was 26th ? I'd say it didn't do too well if that's true.

How did DKCR sell a boat load but Rayman doesn't on more platforms? DKCR came out around this time.
Of course DK is a bigger brand, but that is a staggeringly low number.
At least I'll be able to pick it up at bomba price soon.
How was Rayman advertised?

Define great? Wii hasn't had a December under 2M since the supply constrained days of 2007. Dec 2009 was close to 4M. I think anything less than 2M will not be considered a good result. Especially since the other consoles are prepped to have record or near record months.

Well, there goes Beyond Good and Evil 2....
COD is basically Mario and GTA level. I'm having a hard time seeing this brand drop off.
I think DKCR had much less competition then Rayman Origins, plus a far bigger brand name.
I forgot...why don't we get all the numbers again?
forgot why they stopped doing that....and the combined sales too is bummer
is the 360 really poised to catch up to the wii?

Yeah, this is what Rayman had to compete with just within the platformer genre:
Wii - Kirby: Return to Dreamland
PS3 - Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
PS3/360 - Sonic Generations
DKCR didn't have a single other platformer to compete with last fall on Wii.
Completely mispriced. Should have been XBLA/PSN/Steam at $15, same price as Super Meat Boy.

Looks and feels like an arcade title. Sonic generations and donkey Kong were much better boxed values. How did Rayman do compared to Nintendo's "B-list" Wii platformers (Wario, Kirby)?
Uh, you mean besides Kirby's Epic Yarn, Sonic Colors, Epic Mickey and Mario All-Stars, right?

Disappointing sales for MS, even with Black Friday.
