Source 3
Half Life 3
...In 2033

..has a nice symmetry.
Unreal Engine 5
Half Life 2 Remaster
In 2026

And I think the ass-blowing will be so powerful that it will be possible to provide electricity to one small country
And the flash of the explosion can be observed from the orbital station. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

118 million people watched the game awards live.

GTA6 trailer had 100 million views in 24 hours

It’s not even close.

Doesnt everybody already Know they are working on a. New game?
Uhh, we don’t know what the game is. A new Naughty Dog IP is a big effin deal

No its not a big effing deal. It's business as usual.

THey are just another developer like anyone else. Holy shemole.

GTA 6 has had more eyes on it than the TGA. R* doesnt need TGA.

Seeing some people here dismiss Half Life....

No Way Smh GIF by UEFA

Each HL game revolutionised or evolved gaming in some way at each of their respective releases. A HL3 would break the internet not because of it's name and legacy but because of what it will bring to this sterile industry that has done nothing interesting in a decade.

Advancements to AI,physics,destruction,design...you know....all these very important things that have been completely neglected by developers for over a decade in pursuit of 4k,Ray tracing and image reconstruction techniques....Because making the specks of grass look less jagied in an utterly boring ass game is revolutionary in today's industry.... That or getting pronouns in your game like it's some huge breakthrough.

HL3 If its ever announced will be a game that thoroughly advances the medium as its predecesors did.

But for what is worth...I don't think it will be announced otherwise Geoff would be screaming from the top of his lungs how "hype" his shitshow will be.

this is probably why it's taken so long, either Valve simply cannot provide the revolutionary leap or were just not quite there yet with the tech needed for such a jump

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
If it comes out, it has to be VR focused or at least give us the option to play it with the Index.

Exactly,even Gabe said that.
I remember playing the originals at the time and when HL2 came out there was nothing like it, it was a proper game changer, realistically what could they do other than what you said, AI, Destruction, etc and Valve aren't about to simply target 4090 users

Yes. I’ve played it 3 times now and it never stops being an absolute blast to play. It ruined other VR games for me, because once you play this, nothing comes close to it after all those years.

The immersion, how it controls, the action, makes it the most impressive gaming experience I’ve had since a long long time. I felt a void after playing it, and that ending is QUITE the tease for things to come..
Do you think its a better experience than astro bot rescue mission (my personal favorite vr game but I haven't played half life alyx)

I've only slightly tried the astro vr game for a few minutes, but it didn't wow me nor was near as immersive as Alyx is.

I thought we were past the 'HL3 WILL BE ANNOUNCED' rumors, it looks like it's coming right back. And I love it.

I don't even know how excited we should be for HL3. I mean alyx is nice but it's not a revolution in gaming.
At this point I don't know that anything they put up could live up to the expectations. People think HL3 will impregnate their wives and deliver their children at this point.

If we're going down this rabbit hole, I'd say they'd announce Source 3 with Half Life 3 and Left 4 Dead 3 and Counterstrike 3. If that happens, expect shenanigans.

Alyx is the most revolutionary game that came out in the last 10 years. Nothing else has even come close to make me feel like I was playing something from the future.

Oh, believe me. It will be delivering my children all over the carpet.

So let's assume it happens. What could be the big technological advancement? Maybe something related to the NPCs, like AI that can react to every little action dynamically. Would be my guess. It kinda fits into the current time.
But i don't believe it until i see Gabe himself reveal the game.

No one makes games with actual AI for NPCs anymore, people just program in set reactions when events occur to make it look like AI. That's how everything feels to me. When was the last time you played an open world game where all the monsters had AI and formed alliances and pacts and built crap, and took down other creatures entirely from their region to extinction and so forth.

Even the Gothic games which actually come sorta close still don't quite get it perfect. I'd love for a game to have all it's monsters and NPCs have actual AI and agency outside of the programming and see towns and the sort run themselves and fight wars in game without any interference from the main player triggering events and setting scripted actions in motion.

Which is how almost all games feel to me now, things happen because you get to a specific place, and the characters either just stand in place as text boxes or do some scripted movement. Give us a game with actual AI, where everything learns and acts on its own accord. Townspeople kill other townspeople and steal their money/food, without you being there to watch it, and all sorts of actual unscripted events occur, because the AIs determine them from their own desires.

This will make any sort of plot flow impossible, since there will always be variables that devs didn't account for.

Did you play half life Alyx? It was one of the craziest gaming experiences I’ve ever had

That's true, but it would be the sort of game that didn't have the same outcome every time you play it, and I personally would find it interesting for that, but I guess that's semi-roguelike or MMORPG territory, however I don't believe we've seen too many AAA-level roguelikes with a focus on AI and non-scripted gameplay in an open world.

Just thinking, if HL3 is going to push AI to a level we've never seen to the point it'll be revolutionary - like the current gen equivalent of FEAR - which was scripted by got many people to think the AI was really smart - I think it was that game anyway - it definitely will need to be able to have the leeway in the story where the AI feels like it's reacting to other AI, and not you. I think the issue is all games' AI just is focused on responding to your actions, and if instead the AI was programmed to pay as much attention to it's own welfare and actions that would be something interesting.

Announced with a Steam box that works just like the Steam Deck using SteamOS but is designed for TV/Monitor experience, it comes with a controller and comes in three models ranging from around PS5, PS5 Pro and a 7900XT GPU in terms of GPU power, without all the horrible consoles CPU bottlenecks that makes even equivalent GPU PCs run many games more stable.

BELIEVE!

Maybe this is what Valve has solved. Like they solved physics gameplay in HL2.

Yeah, I hope so, it's kinda interesting - another way to think of it is what does the AI do if you just sit there and watch it. Is it just an enemy scripted to remain in a room for years and years and years or does it have any agency to find food / water and reproduce and survive and fight.

Most games characters have no real AI, they just sit idle until you show up and then respond to a small number of scripted scenarios (usually dialog or combat) and that's it. You can watch them from a distance and the enemy/NPC would just stand there like an idiot doing nothing for months on months even decades if you just let the game sit there.

Gabe gets up on stage, doesn't say anything.

Looks around the crowd in silence, and then makes a three with his fingers.

Everyone gets up and begins the loudest cheer ever in the history of the show.

Then on the screen, there it appears, three new special skins for dota 2.
Logged in just say well done, you

LOL

Now imagine if you could mic up and talk to the ai and yell at it while it yells at you from cover? We need true AI in these games making decisions. How funny would it be to tell an AI, wait! don't shoot, I surrender! and it responded.
