Switch 2 First Party Physical Game Prices: €90/$80 for Mario Kart and €80/$70 for Donkey Kong

Customers don't care that carts are more expensive than discs. 90 euro for a physical Nintendo game is outrageously expensive considering physical Switch 1 games from Nintendo cost 60 euro. That's an insane price bump.

but that's less of an issue compared to the digital prices. digital should be 20€ less than retail at least.
they are using fast solid state storage carts, these cost money.

$80 USD? The fuck?

$80 for standard edition in the US.

This shit is gonna rub off on all other publishers now.

With Nintendo raising their prices all other publishers will follow suit.

You think MS and Sony are gonna follow? Damn...
As much as I hate to say it, I'd prefer early access price increases over permanent ones.

I would hope not for the remainder of this gen, but next gen 100% game prices are getting raised universally.

Industry across the board will probly follow with raising game prices across the board.
Got to pay all those striking voice actors, writers and game testers.

I don't think this will impact 1st party games much. Nintendo 1st party games is the sole reason you own a Nintendo console. So if you're buying a Switch 2, you've accepted the fact that you're going to pay $80 for 1st party games. 3rd party games is where I think will get impacted the most because I don't think Nintendo fans care enough about 3rd party games to pay $80 for them.

The global economy in 2025 is not what it was back in 2017.

Curious to see how this will affect sales.

90 euro is definitely way more than I'm willing to pay.

Physical game prices are not that surprising to me. Switch 2 games probably require a 32GB cartridge as the minimum standard and that is going to eat into margins more than even a disc would.

New CEO coming from the finance side of things is really starting to come through now they've been around for a complete cycle.

His background is in accounting and global marketing.

By comparison, Iwata was a programmer and would have been around for the initial switch planning and R&D

This will open the floodgates for a blanket price rise now, thought it would take until PS6/Next Gen Xbox to see this but I guess here we are now

While those prices are totally insane, I can't even remember when was the last time I bought a Switch game (on release day) at MSRP. Staying physical and not buying directly from Nintendo has its perks...

They have the perfect excuse now, Sony can say "muh Pro console push more graphics = more expensive to develop" and MS can say the same thing with whatever they're doing next, wether is a superPCMR Xbox branded system or a new hybrid device

Gaming is fucked, people will pay whatever for Nintendo HW + games and everyone else not into it will get dragged to this new pricing 🤦‍♂️

This is killing my hype totally. 90 euros... I just can't get over it. I love physical games... collecting and have on my shelf for display. But this... this is how all of that dies. No way can I justify game prices like that. I was so hyped for Switch 2, like no other console before, but now it just feels empty. These insane price hikes going on on EVERYTHING needs to end. It's fucking ridiculous now.

Those cards with ultra fast transfer speed only cost between 8 and 10 dollars.

And that's retail, Nintendo would get a much better deal.

Nintendo games aren't indie. The last Zelda game has more advanced physics than anything else on the market maybe outside of Teardown.

The first part is true, the second isnt, not even close. There are many games with amazing physics and much better graphics and animations (which are physic related).

Fuck Nintendo, these game ll be almost R$600 ( Brazil currency ) that's HALF of the monthly minimum wage over here, piracy on third world countries ll sky rocket thats for sure.

Looking like I'm going to become a pretty exclusive PC player in the future bois. Switch games get emulated eventually.

Oh yes realistic graphics worth more, touch some grass man you have been couped up in your room for too long
Were you in your room that long that you skipped school? My post has nothing to do with realistic games being worth more. Its how more expensive to make they are. It wasn't even that hard to understand come on

There is a LOT of backfire online over the prices of games. I am very sure Nintendo tried to het away with these higher prices, but the backlash is quite enormous.

Not sure they can keep this going like this.

Any idea what the Upgrade Packs will cost? Guessing they'll be $20/each with a 3 pack costing $50.

Hoping for $10/each with a 3 pack costing $25.
