Who got a 5090-5080? post in this thread

Best Buy Canada, waited in queue online multiple times only to be greeted with a ‘sold out’ message.

Nvidia sucks. Best Buy sucks. They had years to prep for these bots.
Yeah. I had a 5080 added to my cart twice and got through to checkout.

Went to input my shipping address then got kicked out.

Card went up in smoke.

I ended up 'pre-ordering' a card from Memory Express. But I have no idea how long it'll take.

Originally felt the sting of that premium price on the 4090 when I bought it back in April last year but .... seems like it has worked out in the end as far as high end gaming+ high end GPU market pricing. Some how dodged a weird bullet

We have been through multiple generations and it has always been a bad decision to sell a GPU before acquiring the new one.

Yet people still do it.

In fact, I bet the 4090s will go for more since it’s easily the second best card.
Lies, I have on good and leather jacketed authority that a 5070 matches/beats a 4090! 🤡🤡🤡

My heart wasn't in for searching for one. I did pop onto bestbuy.com and got into the "add to cart" line, but it errored out on me, than a minute later said sold out. So I shrugged, patted my 4090 and went on with my life.

It’s for sure not the way I really wanted to go

I have this other PC here that is a 9800X3D 4080Super build that is much nicer than what is coming and I think I will just switch GPUs and do something with the one I dont want.

I usually donate my PCs to a local high school PC lab as they have a class for esports wannabes
Donate to me man. Some Canadian people here need some love too with a gpu lol.

Good for you bud

Sold my 4090 a month ago on the assumption the 5000 series would be good.
Never do this. After 2020 this strategy simply doesn’t work anymore. Things have changed too much imo.

On second thought, I guess you probably don’t need me to tell you now. 😂

A lot of replies in here are reminding me of Kyle Bennet, and his goddamned obsession with posting pictures of his Dodge Viper.

You guys really haven’t been paying attention.

Nvidias has little financial incentive to sell these cards at the price they’re selling them for when they could literally add a zero to price and then sell them as AI accelerator cards. While AI is still hot, the chips are going to be prioritized for AI. That’s just the facts. That’s why supply is scarce.

The 5000 series exists solely to throw gamers a bone. Jensen knows that once the AI bubble collapses he will need gamers to fall back on.
They have the Digits coming out in a few months which will be good for inference especially on the newer models like deepseek.

They're going to be circa $3k which undercuts mac mini / studio clusters by a lot

The entirety of Microcenter got 200 5090's and 2,000 5080's. This wasn't even a launch, they send more units to review outlets and Youtubers. Newegg and Best Buy probably received mildly larger allotments, but not significantly so. It's likely they only sold 1,000 5090's and 10,000 5080's in the entirety of the US today. I have no idea what possible reason they would have for handling launches like this, it's an embarrassment and a clusterfuck that reflects poorly on every store, AIB, and Nvidia.

Is that from a website or where are those numbers of MC coming from?

Reddit compiled the allotment of every Microcenter location, it was around 8-10 5090's and 60-80 5080's per store. It undoubtedly came from store managers telling the lines outside so people didn't wait all night for nothing.

Excellent job by the community if they were able to come up with those numbers. It helps that there are less than 15 of those stores throughout the country.

The "Tier 2" categorized stores for PC components (i.e. Amazon, B&H, Adorama) received 0 units for this "launch".

😂 it’s all good, let people have their Ws. Congrats to those that got what they wanted, enjoy your purchases, those that missed, I am sure your time will come. I doubt we are looking anything close to the RTX 30 series/4090s era of wait times to come to more normalized pricing. As a consolation prize enjoy transformer for free at least if you have some sort of RTX card.

Is there any indication of whether they'll be restocked soon, preferably for a less painful checkout process?

Might just wait for the 5070 ti if I can muster the personal strength to wait, as I have a feeling that'll be the best in terms of dollar per frame, but I wonder if it'll just sell out immediately too....

sold out within a micro second down here in australia (2000 dollars is the cheapest one), no 4080s either. they wont be restocking any 4 series anymore im guessing? Im keen on a 5070ti but the way its going feels like itll be 6 months before things quieten down

Had one in the cart but couldn't checkout. Feels like Scandinavia for around 4 cards in total.

Think I'm just gonna try and squeeze another couple years out of my 3080. Would have potentially impulse bought a 5080 at MSRP but hell no at these scalper prices.
Stay strong bro, in a year we gonna get 20 or 24gigs vram 5080ti, it will be pricey too but at least stronger from 4090 and actually have decent avaiability(likely around 1500usd/euro tho ;p).

There’s absolutely no way there was only 1,000 5090s available for sale.

There was a better chance of getting a surprise Bloodborne ps5 patch today than getting a 5090. My clown ass should have known better.

Last time, I bought my 4080 Super FE from Nvidia website. (I like FE because they are usually the cheapest)... and thought I would be able to buy 5090 on their store front. Nope. I clicked "show all buying options" came up, and website couldn't be accessed. :(

No biggie. I'm pretty happy with 4080 Super, and more than willing to hold onto this for next couple years.
I'm hoping 9070xt would be very good and competitively priced - which I am debating to buy for my 2nd computer.

Not yet but I'll probably buy a 5090 pre built soon if someone can recommend a good company. This will be my first gaming rig.

The only consumer facing retailers who received inventory for today in any volume were Microcenter, Newegg, and Best Buy. Microcenter received 238 units total, that's every location and every AIB combined. Newegg and Best Buy no doubt received more, but not orders of magnitude so. Even if you wanted to assume they both 10x'ed Microcenter (unlikely as Microcenter is the most preferred partner for PC component manufacturers/distributors), you'd still only be talking about fewer than 5,000 units total. This was not a launch.

I made a half arsed attempt at 9am trying bestbuy/amazon, Went to the cart and when it went to process it disappeared 🖕, So stroked my 4080s and told him/her/she/them/dvdrdw that I think its sexy and strong in his new transformer unit .
That was no way a launch lol

I stalked newegg, not a single 5090 available to buy. This is worst than crypto covid times

The last time i was happy when there’s the cryto crash and people were dumping RTX3000 mining cards

People talking about paper launch should brace themselves. It will be a paper gen. Every time NVIDIA is making gamer GPU they are losing money because they could make a h100 with 10X the markup.
And since there's no competition in that segment anymore, they will not lose any market share.

this. I highly doubt they even care about their gaming gpu business now.

they only shipped 160k cards for the last launch, and this one seems to be even thinner.

id be surprised if they even shipped 100k cards worldwide.

Which is crazy nvidia seeding 5090 to youtubers, some with less than 50k subs, laced their mouths with honey so the fake launch is not called out

Got a TUF 5090 for msrp (2455€) which is kinda funny considering that last time I failed at getting 4090 msrp (1999€) so many times I bought a STRIX model for 2590€ so I paid less for a 5090 than a 4090...
