As was foretold, their union would bring peace between two great houses.

That's all folks, it's officially a wrap. We now have 2 exclusive-heavy console manufacturers and everybody else is 3rd party.

Like I said in another thread though, this is all part of their long-term strategy. It's just a trojan horse for their real plan, which is to eventually make all their best games exclusive on Xbox in about 2 generations from now.

Right now they need to make the business model work, and they can only do that by being on PlayStation.

Once that 10-year COD contract is up, that franchise will be Xbox + PC exclusive, I'm almost 100% sure of that. The casuals who buy PS just for that, will switch to wherever the place is that has it.
Oh sweet summer child.

What if sony just ignored them and decided they don't want to offer them any help with their userbase? Or if they just want to watch the xbox brand burn? :D

Hard to imagine my 800 Xbox 360, Xbox OG, Xbox One and Xbox Series games would just work on a PC. Especially if there isn’t a PC version. Users would have a flawless experience with Halo 5 and Halo Infinite? One is on PC the other is not.

If they can give you thousands of PC versions of console games that would be great. But that sounds like a huge task to work out with thousands of developers.
Would be too costly to unnecessarily build games for two environments and maintain the additional OS.

A simple BC program will fix it. Don’t expect everything to work properly straight away but an emulator will make the transition smoother.

I could envision a dual boot mode. One that runs the Xbox OS with specific drivers taking advantage of the architecture and then a custom version of windows, which would essentially be a steam machine but running the Windows Store with maybe the option of running multiple stores. Devs would have to optimize games for running on that system similar to the Steam Deck, but could also run unoptimized.

But I'm telling people the price tag on this thing is going to be tremendous. I would not be surprised if this never happens or if it doesn't run Steam.
Doesn’t sound very consumer friendly.
People on here would get it but casuals would not.

It's ironic, Sony and it's 70/30 split is the saviour of the Xbox brand. Helping to finance Gamepass content for Microsof to get subscriptions. to finance PS5 games. What a crazy world and such a dramatic shift from 5 years ago. It's a vicious circle of survival for now, but could change as the wind blows.

Spencer has said he has to run a successful business from within Microsoft. Microsoft the corporation has given him all the resources they can give and more to do that. But even then they are still can't get there without fully embracing PlayStation and this is just another baby step in that direction.
Meanwhile at Nintendo....

You don't want to advertise your rivals, but PlayStation isn't their rival anymore. Microsoft have given up trying to fight PlayStation as they can't win that battle. So now they are releasing all of their games on PlayStation it just makes sense to let people know where your games are.

If the next Xbox dominates the high end console gaming space, which seems very possible, don't be surprised if it starts receiving PlayStation ports.
They are currently in the weakest position they've ever been in in the console market and they have never come close to dominating the high end console gaming space before. But yeah sure that sounds very possible. The next Xbox with no exclusive titles is not just going to pull them back from the abyss but double the sales of the PS6!

There is no such thing as a high end console gaming space, there is only the medium end console gaming space. Consoles are efficient ways to get your games.

The last time someone tried an expensive console, it was the Neo-Geo. It was $649.99 at launch in 1990.(inflation adjusted estimate at $1552 today) It was a beautiful machine that literally runs arcade software perfectly. It is the Arcade gaming box, because the hardware was literally used in Arcades.

Total lifetime sales for the Neo-Geo main hardware? 1.18 million. Good luck.

Looks like people still haven't realized Xbox wants to become Netflix of Games.

Good strategy for long term gains but the console will die as a result

The subscription model doesn't work for games because Free-to-Play and GaaS means the majority of the population only play a few games for years and years. This might have worked 20 years ago but not now. Trying to sell a buffet subscription when free food is available just doesn't work.

This Xbox turning into the Netflix of games thing everyone is saying since them going third party always confuses me. Because AFAIK Netflix keep their content exclusive. I don't think they're showing Stranger Things trailers with a disney+ logo.

They are in a really hard place.
They were too greedy with the Activision deal and now, I assume, shareholders are demanding returns.
If they go fully 3rd party, they will lose the 30% from games sales on their hardware.

On the other hand their hardware is now so unpopular that spending millions in R&D, in manufacturing and losing more money with each console sold probably doesn't justify making a next gen because of the limited sales it would have, with every game releasing on Playstation/Switch 2.

The delusion in this thread is fantastic.

1. MS will release a glorious high end console that will make PS fans cry.
2. Sony is going third party.

What kind of reality bending heavy narcotics do you guys consume?

Xbox is placing PS and Nintendo logos on their shows because they want people to know that their games are available to pre order on the consoles that people actually still buy and spend money on games.

And no, you will not see 1st party games from Sony on Xbox, at least not the Single Player system seller IPs, because it doesn't make sense for Sony to do that. You will get some GaaS stuff and that's it.
And you know what? It's fine, its the way it's meant to be, it's how competition works for 4 decades now.

Spencer fucked up and now the fans are trying to bend reality like a 45 year old trucker wearing panties and a wig, screaming he is a woman.

hehe. I mean, it was the one thing Sony was afraid of in the court hearings. Luckily 10-years is a long time for them to hopefully find an alternative in case Microsoft does decide to go that route.
Yeah because they were worried that Microsoft would make all Xbox games exclusive. They even tried. But Xbox is dying so Microsoft has no choice but to become a 3rd party. We will even see Cod on Nintendo systems. There will be no coming back from this.

Man many of us used to talk about how Gamepass would destroy sales on the platform and what the ramifications of that would be for years with fanboys defending "the strategy". Crazy to be at the end game some of us predicted.
Legit opinions against it were met with the usual, "concern trolling" or a giant muzzle by the Xbox fanbase to stifle any non-bootlicking takes.

One of the greatest self-owns for a fanbase of a platform ever.

Simple question, if I can just buy their games on Playstation/Nintendo hardware then what is the point of Xbox making consoles anymore? Doesn't this pretty much makes Xbox consoles redundant?

That's a question that repeatedly gets asked, but there is a simple answer. MS needs some form of next-gen hardware to help retain GP subs. MS has a lot invested in GP, and 80% of their GP base is on Xbox. They need someplace for those people to land next-gen.

Basically Game Over for the xbox astroturfers. BTW where has @CatLady been?

I assume she left for "greener" pastures.

Microsoft has smart goals, for example Xbox might be built into TVs, individuals are saying they might be streaming kings, and Xbox consoles image is improving after everything the one did wrong.
