Yoshida: Xbox games on PS5 a ‘win’ for PlayStation owners

Ex-PlayStation exec says becoming “the minority platform” was his nightmare
Speaking during an interview following his exit from PlayStation, the former head of PlayStation first-party was asked about Microsoft‘s decision to bring Xbox titles to PlayStation.
“I explained in one interview that it was always my nightmare when I was a managing first-party, I’m lucky it didn’t happen, that if PlayStation became the minority platform, it would be impossible to maintain the first-party development because the best creators would leave. They are not just creatives, they are business people as well, they want their games to reach the biggest audience as well.
“Looking at the install base of Xbox hardware, it’s kind of natural to understand what they are doing, and it’s pretty straightforward.”
It’s expected that Microsoft will delve further into its back catalog to bring more titles to PlayStation, in what is a largely unprecedented move.
Head of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer recently said there are now “no red lines” for which games it could bring to PS5 next.
You guys forgot to post this one.

Makes sense

PlayStation owners win
PS5 now gets games from studios that PlayStation consoles never got games from before.

Microsoft win
Microsoft’s games are now no longer constrained to PC and Xbox consoles, providing the quality is there, the games will sell

Xbox owners lose
Xbox Series S/X has lost a huge selling point, console exclusives. That small audience of 30 million is unlikely to grow and, as a result, Microsoft’s interest in their own consoles will wane too.

The only issue now is potential is Sony arrogance. With no exclusives anyone with half a brain will tell you a next-gen Xbox is dead on arrival.

No doubt. Xbox putting out more quality titles on the PS5 in 2025 than Sony is.

Doing gods work.
I mean...we need to wait until the end of the year to talk about quality. If it's more "i'll try this one out for free on Gamepass" titles like Avowed then it won't matter much.

Will they release more titles? Sure...but after buying half the industry you'd expect that.

I guess you can play them day one on Gamepass Ultimate if you have that running, on PS you need to buy them.

But yes, I see not much of a reason to continue with Xbox hardware in the future. They win more if they just sell their games.

Impossible, just the other day they were telling me that it's actually a good thing and that they don't care 'cause "we have COD Day1®" , "why should we care®" and "why is it bad for more people to play more games ®".

Is what people are worried about for third party on current Xbox machines going forward into a new gen.

I'm struggling to think of a more uninteresting Xbox game than Hellblade 2, tbh. But opinions....
Well, I loved Hellblade 1, so playing Hellblade 2 is a no-brainer.

The rest from Xbox is mediocre, imo. Otherwise I would've bought an Xbox years ago.

OK, so not related to this thread in particular, but...

can we get like a "Yoshida says" megathread going? Because this is getting absolutely ridiculous. I have nothing against the guy, he's deservedly a legend, but having (seemingly) multiple threads posted every day about any random interview he's given recently (I'm guessing parts of them are translations or AI summaries) is just a bit much.
