COD leaker: MW4 (2026) skipping last gen, in dev on next-gen Xbox dev kits

People are downright high if they think MS will give up the sales the 'current' gen offer in place of focusing on a new generation of Xbox's. Like this is the literal opposite of their current strategy.

2027 seems a bit early for ps6 considering PRO should be mid gen but it's all weird now.

I agree, but it also feels like the PS5 Pro is less important than the PS4 Pro was last generation.

During the Activision court case I remember reading Sony said they did not expect to release the PS6 "Before 2028", but I imagine plans could change if they see Xbox is going to try to jump the gun, or if the PS5 is slowing down ahead of expectations. I guess it depends on how the Switch 2 looks and what the next Xbox turns out to be.

They’re already skipping XBO with first party games.

Yeah no way is MS this stupid to release a whole new console in 2026.

Wait...what? Hasn't that been the whole rumor mill for months now?

The idea of making a Pro version of the Series console seems insane... if it's not a new generation of hardware, or a wildly different type of machine (basically a PC) what's the point?

Anyone believing MS is launching a next generation Xbox in 2026 given how badly they are currently doing right now is on some serious drugs. A “next gen” Xbox next year would be expensive AF with very minimal improvements over the Pro and no one would buy it but the extremely diehard. It would make Stadia look like a huge success.

You gotta understand that over the last few months a lot of people convinced themselves that Xbox was out of hardware forever.

Anyone believing MS is launching a next generation Xbox in 2025
Literally no one said 2025.

If there's a notable year or more gap between the next perceived Xbox and PS console, then by default it will be a next-gen exclusive for that duration, it's not really a "They can't" matter.
Yeah, no.
They would kill CoD if they were ever allowed to do that.
Edit: Ignore, misunderstood. There would still be the PS5 version.

I think it’s possible due to Phil’s complaints of subsidizing these devices leading to a loss. Therefore if it’s expensive it would be sold at a profit.

Exciting to start hearing about next-gen already
Makes me wonder what they're going to do this year though

If there's a new engine then I assume it won't use this same COD launcher app on Steam

Xbox (2001) to Xbox 360 (2005) - 5 years

Xbox 360 (2005) to Xbox One (2014) - 9 years

Xbox One (2014) to Xbox Series (2020) - 6 years

Xbox Series (2020) to Xbox Next Gen (2026) - 6 years

Timing fits the previous gens, except the 360 which was an outlier and went too long in the end.

god some of you are real masochists i swear.
there is no xbox2026, it would be DOA, and sell a tiny fraction series x, let it go already,
I agree. We won’t be seeing a traditional console from them going forward. The best fans can hope for is a hybrid or “Steam Machine” kinda XBox. Anyone expecting a powerhouse traditional console from them after how bad they’ve done this gen is going to be severely disappointed.

This is a tell that Switch 2 is much more powerful than some would have you believe.

Xbox One released in November 2013.

5-6 years is fine. We’re all adults here on a basket weaving forum. No one will complain of a 700+ console since we’re enthusiasts right?

Depends. ps4 pro only upgraded on games with patches.
ps5 pro upgrades on many games because many games have modes and unlocked fps this gen.
And back then, 4k was still kinda new. I was perfectly happy with slim

At this point it doesn't really matter, now with game pass on PC and PS5 getting games as well. Will be interesting to see the new hardware but definitely won't be buying one this time around. My pro and newly built 9800x3d system well keep me happy until 2027

Most of us have NO IDEA! The only thing I can think of is to continue GamePass subs.

I should clarify - will the next machine be held back by a compatibility requirement with the Series S? If so, then that would mean it's a Series console - even if they don't call it the Series X Pro or whatever. If games are not required to be compatible with the Series hardware, then I'd say it's a new generation.

I'm with you a 1000% but I guess there's some coin to squeeze from the PS4 base yet 🙃
Would be a lot of money to walk away from

Also since MS is in charge of COD its the most typical MS thing to turn their backs on those millions thinking a designed COD to play best on Xbox 2 would make people want to switch to an Xbox

They have a good track record of not making the smartest decisions

I'm betting that next-gen Xbox is basically a handheld PC, possibly with a Switch-like dock.

Don't expect a jump in power, just better upscaling.

I must be alone when I say this. Id rather them cut back on development time and cost manage better. Before we even think of a ps6 and next box. What would even be the selling point? Ray tracing again? Learn to utilize other resources in games. Honestly, the dual sense and smaller games like returnal and Astro Bot have felt more nedr gen than anything else. Just an opinion though.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Yeah, no.

Yeah, it's talking about leaving the PS4/XBO gen behind, not the PS5/Series one, that's what the tweet reads like to me.

They're never gonna go completely single-gen, but I can easily see a scenario where they don't want to support 3 different generations.

Now the question is where Switch 2 slots into this equation.

Xbox is already struggling to sell games on the current gen consoles that people actually own
The struggle part is to appease other publishers but the real kill is locking their base into gamepass. Plug steam/epic as an option and they have all games however we will most likely stick to gp.

The real killer apps are the rare 10/10 and ftp/inexpensive games.
