Avowed |OT| Is an oath worth the weight of a crown?

How is the game papis? Should I jump in for 1€ in pc Papipass?
That's what I'm doing. Too good a chance to pass up honestly, plus playing Indiana Jones.

I don't mind level scaling per se as some of my favourite RPGs have it but I'm so glad this one doesn't. Just awesome to wonder through wilderness and coming across enemies that are way above your level and planning on coming back after levelling up a bit.
This is something I'm really excited about as soon as I heard some random guy complain in a video on Youtube about it. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Can't exit camp without time resetting?

They should patch that. Give the option to talk to peoples and then leave to explore at night.
That is a good point. I'm a known idiot so could have missed an option like that. But if it is not possible, you are right, they could at least give you that choice.

Welp.. this is what I got when I tried to play Indiana Jones... 1080 ti too old? Updated to the latest driver, hoping that would do the trick..

Failure.... Am I destined to the same failure with Avowed? Should I refund my $1 now? :messenger_loudly_crying: Wow, I suddenly hate Ray Tracing.

The game's minimum requirement is a 2060 so unfortunately you're gonna need an RT capable GPU minimum, it seems like.

Yeah, RT is compulsory for Indi as well as next Doom.

Though Avowed should work I guess. Thats UE5.

Ooops

Indiana Jones require hardware RT capabilities

Is there maybe a mod since then? But it would look terrible as the game was made with RT lighting in mind.

Avowed is UE5 so software Lumen is fine

Overall, it seems alot of people are expecting it to be average and are ending up enjoying it on other forums at least. I have gamepass so its a no brainer for me to try.

Ok 7 hours in and i havent even been to the starting city yet, or done any main missions. Because of that i cant comment on the story as i have just been exploring the map. This game is all about the combat and exploration, which is fantastic.
Graphically parts of the game look stunning, other parts not so much. Def a budget or manpower thing with that i guess.
The variety in the world is great though, and my 7 hours has only been in a smallish part of the map.
Inevitably, especially with the close launch window, people are going to compare this to KCD2, and imo KCD2 has a lot more mechanics, obviously a lot more grounded in realism, and as a pure RPG it has more depth (although like i said i havent done any story yet). So it kind of depends what you're into as Avowed has way more variety in its world, better combat (some poeple love the combat in KCD, some hate it, i dont really like it myself), and obviously has all the fantasy and magic elemants that KCD2 doesnt have.

I like both games, and i actually feel that although they are both rpg's,they are different enough to live together, and to even do parallel playthoughs, swicthing between games which is what i will be doing.

So for me, KCD2 has more rpg depth and mechanics, while Avowed has more variety in its world and enemies, and better combat and loot. Traversal also feels great in Avowed, it fact it reminds me of Dying Light a lot.

Ofcourse with the whole pronoun thing, and console warring, Avowed is going to get a lot of hate, but if you are a fan of Elder Scrolls style fantasy rpg's, Avowed scratches that itch imo.

I'd give the game so far a 8/10, although like is said most of my 7 hours has just been exploring and doing a few side missions. I cant really comments on the story or quality of the main missions.

I see this opinion alot. Definitely looking forward to it. And considering it could be years before we see another Elder Scrolls game, why not? An 8/10 game that will only get better with time.

Not sure what you are referring to.

When I was a kid I had no problems with fps played a TON of 007 Goldeneye on N64 etc… Then one day playing that game at Thanksgiving with family I just got sick and threw up.

Since that day EVERY first person game makes me sick after a few minutes. Never diagnosed or got any treatment for it just stopped playing or even trying to play first person games.

Installed. Played for a bit.
  • Not graphically impressive in any way given the performance.
  • Stutters with my 12700/4090.
  • Basically no world interactivity.
  • People don't react to anything you do.
  • Completely dead feeling environments.
  • Art design competes with Veilguard on using AAA money to make something that looks like a mobile game.
  • Dialogue already reeks of modern millennial writing tropes.
  • Combat seems good.
Uninstalled. Games like this really shouldn't be released in a world with BG3 and KCD2. We really need to have a discussion about legacy RPG developers regressing so much in their ability to make compelling games.

Why would you go to the hassle of refunding a dollar? Just download and play some other games?
I'm just so sad about it, but you're right - that's a kneejerk reaction. I'll wait for Avowed and hope it doesn't run like trash. As far as other games, I was shocked to see that most of the games I'd want to play on Gamepass I already own, but I did spy a few that I'm interested in. Pentiment, Ninja Gaiden, Return to Monkey Island, so I might mess around with some of those.

There is a separate option in many FPS games to put a dot in the middle to make your eyes focus on a static object. I read it helps people that become sick when playing FPS games.

Watching WolfheartFPS play. Seems he hasn't figured out how important it is to level up your equipment. Going against tier 2 armor enemies when your weapons are still tier 1 is a road to nowhere. Same for taking hits from tier 2 weapon enemies when you are still rocking tier 1 armor. They will damn near one shot you.

Some of these reviewers/youtubers/streamers as so baffling bad at games. I cannot believe how the publishers entrust them to review their games.

Since they have to play so many games, they are sprinting through them. He blamed this ogre boss for being spongy when he hasn't really bought better equipment of leveled up his current equipment. The game tells you this with a window pop up. Astounding how many game players do not read. Your companions even reinforce this by saying your weapons are too weak while fighting. Enemies are not spongy on hardest difficulty. They just hit harder and are more aggressive.

Good info.

Good video. I was wondering how the skulls worked and I didn’t know you stored excess food recovery if you fill up.

Just got to the second area in the game, at about 9 hours. Seems like I only explored about 60-70% of the first area.

I am yet to find a better wand than common 😐

You weren't able to level it up to a Fine Wand or buy one in Paradis? I'm still in the first area in I was able to level up two of my Common Daggers into Fine Daggers.

Man, even if you are sprinting through.. it's pretty obvious if you are bad. The guy is right, a lot of them are objectively bad at games. I'm sure sprinting can play a role, though.

This is really depressing and disappointing.
Bud that card is coming up on 8 years old. I don't mean to be harsh but it's like asking why a PS4 game doesn't run on PS3.

Also Avowed should run. You can even turn off RT in the settings, which I even do on my much higher end rig because cutting your FPS by 30% for some "nice reflections" is a piss poor trade off. I'd rather run it 4K60 with minimal upscaling and no RT. Looks very nice.

I wasnt hyped for the game, far from it, but decided to buy it cause my girlfriend love this kind of game

And yeah, I wasnt surprised by what I've played (just reached Paradis). She loves it though.

Good stuff first:

* Combat is fun. Punchy, great feedback and varied. Dont love all the colours and numbers popping up everywhere, but its ok.
* Runs excellent on my 3060 RTX
* Hair looks gorgeous. Best looking curly hair in a game.

Cons:

*Dialogue is so boring. Have played through the whole prologue and I couldnt care less about any of those characters or the story in general.
* The art style is ... something.
* The menus and UI in general is freaking horrific. Seems like its running on a dev build or something.
* Voice acting is ok, but animations are bad. Coming from BG 3 or Vailguard, it sticks out. It's by far the best from Obsidian, but its still mediocre.

I would give it a 6/7 right now, honestly.

The city right after the prologue looks interesting, but again, I feel no motivation to know more about the story or characters. Its all so vanilla.

Pronouns are disabled by default. Meaning people have to turn them on to be offended, which of course they are doing.

Wait so it's not even on by default?

Sigh... Obsidian could have saved themselves so much hassle and headache by just showing default things in the marketing.

They may need to sprint, but since is your job to be a reviewer, your gaming knowledge should be enough to infare when you don't have good enough gear, when you don't have the talents points messed up, when boss/you have buffs/depuffs, and so on.
This should be basic knowledge to be able to review games. Not to go with "i do bad damage, the game is bad"

Not trying to change your mind but I think the writing and the world building sneaks up on you. The companion dynamics get more interesting when the dwarf joins you and the game refrences lore established in PoE games. There is a lot of Obsidian humour if you know where to look and very soon the conflicts and dillemas will stretch beyond basic good vs evil stuff. I’m actually pleased how they made everything more accessible without the feeling of playing a dumbed down version of PoE

There is some shanenigans with the enemy level in this game, you can't have bosses and enemies with 3 skulls in such early missions, even if i explore everything, kill everything and do every sidequest i still don't have enough materials to upgrade everything to level 3 or even 2, like the game kinda want you to experiment with different loadouts but upgrade costs are a bit high so it's hard to chose what to upgrade and you end by not upgrading anything :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

I heard shill up and acg talking about this problem but in the hardest difficulty is even more pronounced because enemies are super tanky, i feel like i'm almost always 1-2 levels behinds.

Other than that it's a fun game, but i would really love if there were some marks on enemies or some gore, it would make look the combat even better.

You should know that's not true, it just would have been DEI by 'stealth'. Anything for clicks or affirmation.

All I want is for devs to stop preaching, and for the haters to understand why DEI started in the first place. So the rest of us can get on with living our lives not giving a shit about how other people live theirs. You do you is my motto, more power to you, just don't expect me to want to live your life too. Somewhere in all of this the centre is lost (again). Maybe I could start a consultancy, call it FFS Balance or something.
