Absolutely not.

RROD, terrible second half that lacked great games, Kinect focus, etc

It maybe rounds out the bottom 10 at best?

Every Nintendo system outside of GameCube and Wii U has been better

Every PlayStation has been better (PS3 may be arguable)

Sega had at least two systems that were better imho

That puts it at like #13

Like most things, only through nostalgia goggles. Never owned one until far after it's heyday so the only lasting memory I have of it is getting called a fag whilst playing CoD at friend's places. They were right, but it still stung.
Had Alice: Madness Returns though, so I could be persuaded.

Its certainly a top 5 system. Xbox 1 and PS2 to lesser extent started it, but 360 is pretty much the console that put most big western series into the console mainstream. It was mostly seen as a Japanese gaming only hobby before that with some small exceptions. Mass Effect, Gears, Oblivion, and more really changed the entire trajectory of gaming for at least a decade. And it was no slouch on the Japanese games either with Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2, Tenchu Z, Last Remnant, Star Ocean, FFXIII and more. Call of Duty became what it is today on 360. Xbox Live Arcade was the start of the popularization modern indie games and digital distribution as we know it now. First digital games I really knew about were Braid, Omega 5 and Geometry Wars.

Its probably the peak western console if you want to include even 1 in your top 5. Otherwise you're just going to have 5 Japanese consoles for all top 5? Seems a bit biased to me.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
No, but only because it's really not my style. I would guess it's a lot of people's fav though..

Not for me although I had one. I enjoyed the PS3 much more in that generation (due to all the fun PSN games like Calling All Cars! and of course, Warhawk!!).

Yes. It's top 5 for sure. It brought so many innovations in terms of online features. The blades were an iconic UI. First party was at it's peak with Bungie making Halo and Epic making Gears of War. MS got a lot of third party support, even from Japanese publishers and the vast majority of third party games that gen played better on 360 than PS3. So many fond memories from that era, playing game campaigns in online co-op with friends while being able to chat with mics was a new experience in the console space.

This post pretty much nails it.

RROD, lack of first-party titles in the second stage of its life and the terrible Kinect experiment doesn't put it close to the top 5 consoles of all time.

Edit

If we're making personal top 5 lists, mine would be

1. PS2
2. PS1
3. N64
4. Switch
5. PS3

No, not enough unique software. Also terrible tail end of that generation. It was top 5 that gen though. Also RROD, introducing paid online and paywalls, and nickel-and-diming with peripherals (HDD, HD-DVD, Wifi, controller battery adapter). But overall software-wise really poor. How many GOTY contenders in its lifetime? wins? maybe 2 contenders? 1 win? That's not enough for a top 5 all time console, maybe can't even crack top 8.

I might change my vote. It was the second best console to enjoy the best generation in gaming. Seeing it with that perspective… man… Games are so bland now that even a solid 8/10 like Red Faction Armageddon would be GOTY any year of this generation, with idiots saying that only this new systems allow for this kind of world interaction and physics.

It did have a terrible tail end. But I think PS3 had a pretty rough beginning.

My favourite console to date. Like anything though, if it jives with you at that point in your life, then it becomes pretty much unbeatable.

IMO it had the leap in graphics and games, and multiplayer finally became truly viable on a console. I was lucky enough never to get a RROD, and have nothing but great memories of that console.

I am also pretty sure if I had went down the PS route in that generation, then PS3 would have been in the top 5 too for all the same reasons.

The top 5 has at least 2 Nintendo consoles and 2 Playstation consoles sooo...maybe?

Edit: Completely forgot about Dreamcast so yeah...that's probably a no.

Personally, not for me. Didn’t play much except SP Halo/Gears.

Bioshock was boring. Mass Effect was better on PC.

I would take Series systems over it, despite not having exclusives.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
For me, not even close. The absolute shithouse technical performance and lack of really good Japanese-developed games prevents it from being particularly great. There were plenty of really good games that I liked, and there are still plenty of games I'd like to go back and try, so I definitely don't dislike the system... but the first batch of HD consoles were a rough time in general.

It is for me, but then, I've only owned seven consoles. I had a lot of fun during the first half of the 360 era, though. After they shifted priority to Kinect, things started to deteriorate, but it was a lot of fun before that.

Short answer: no.

Long answer: Noooooooooo.
I'm glad you had good memories with yours OP, but it ain't top 5 of all time. Even if we were just talking 3D-era consoles, it would still rank below PS2, PS1, Switch, Wii and PS4. Factor in the worst hardware failure rate a console has ever had and 360 doesn't make the cut.

Who did they think I was shilling for?
Thats an interesting question. It certainly started out super strong, but it was the only console to ever die on me, and the second part of its life was overshadowed by the PS3.

I put no, but in saying that despite hardware quality control, it was the first console to give Sony some real competition, and for that I am grateful.

Those days you could see xbox leadership at its best. Xbox really needs another Peter Moore, someone to push the envelope. Sadly all we get nowadays is Captain Whatshisname, engagement numbers and a whole bunch of excuses.
