On one hand, how many jrpgs have “le heckin evil Christian-esque church “ as the antagonist faction?

On the other hand, i like bad things happening to Ubisoft

On the whole, this is funny.

What’s the current state of the wikipedia entries for yasuke?

But I remember the disclaimer Ubi puts in front of every Ass Creed game about having a culturally diverse group of programmers blah blah blah SO YOU'RE SO WRONG, SHRINE HEAD!
Thats Racist GIF

This narrative is so exhausting because you can’t back up anything with facts. So every time a “DEI” character is a lead character in a game it’s because of “wokie media points?

Did you just start playing video games recently?

If you don’t like games with “DEI” characters just don’t buy/play the games its that simple. I will never understand constantly bashing something that you don’t like. It makes no sense, just move on.
Yeah Im sure when brain storming for this samurai game in feudal japan and its many stories and possibilities they all had the same thought.. "how about that famous black samurai story we all know about and love so much, its awsome"

Whatever row your woke boat bro I really dont give a fuck.

Yasuke's story isn't that popular which is exactly what makes this game interesting, its one of main reasons I started to pay attention to this game because I wasn't familiar with his story.

If you don't care, why are you constantly popping up in threads related to this game and posting the same "woke" nonsense?

We actually got and continue to get, a good amount of games set in feudal Japan so you have other options of games you can play... don't get the obsession with this game and yasuke ...

Work on your reading comprehension. I never claimed otherwise and that wasn't the point of contention in my first reply.
That's laughable, since you replied to me about a literal fact I stated which did not need your worthless insight. Reading comprehension? Don't pertain to comment on anything to do with my person. Find someone else to troll. Have the day you deserve.

Who is being an "asshole"?

I'm just giving my opinion, which is Ubisoft haven't done anything to be considered disrespectful.

Lol.

Surly trying not to be an asshole means not using childish insults like above, no?
The mere fact that you seem to have been thinking I was addressing you with these remarks tells me I shouldn't invest any more time in this thread.

I honestly don’t give a damn about this stuff.

I just think it’s hilarious that the people who made this game are the same types who cry about “cultural appropriation”, “representation matters”, “decolonization” etc. now they’re on the receiving end of the same shit that they relished doing to others.

Thought you said "Decolorization" instead of "Decolonization" for a second XDD

I imagine you meant "don't presume." It doesn't seem like you're quite grasping the gist of my point, so I bid you good day and take care.

I completely agree with this. I have been living in Japan for 15 years and these kind of matters are just taken as disrespectful here. It might be okay in other countries if a company says it’s just a work of fiction, but if you make fiction place it in a fictional place as well.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it. It’s as simple as that. We’re talking about a game where people jump from a 100 foot building into a basket of hay and come out unscathed.

Ubisoft is a joke and I hope Japan ramps up more heat against them. Ubisoft needs to be the next big AAA to go away so maybe we can get back to what made video games fun and amazing once upon a time.

Definitely, samurai never hurt unarmed people. It's just a fact.

Except when they tested out their swords on peasants to see how sharp they were!

Wikipedia said:
Tsujigiri (辻斬り or 辻斬, literally "crossroads killing") is a Japanese term for a practice when a samurai, after receiving a new katana or developing a new fighting style or weapon, tests its effectiveness by attacking a human opponent, usually a random defenseless passer-by, in many cases during night time.[1] The practitioners themselves are also referred to as tsujigiri.[1][2]

Watch the rebuttal be 'but it's ok because that was from an actual Japanese developer, so they can do that'

🤭
Unironically i think its a good response. If they were to get backlash it would be a Jap on Jap crime xD, and it would be x20 worst than any repercussions they'd face from foreigners.

If Ubisoft was known for making edgy and politically incorrect games (like Rockstar in their prime), I wouldn't mind it.

The problem is the hypocrisy. "Oh we care so much about the asian POCs, we will really respect your culture and story", then they make a foreign protagonist who can destroy temples and kill religious people.

Also they would obviously never do the same if it was the Religion of Peace™ instead of Shinto, so fuck them.
Yes, indeed. This situation doesn't happen in The Last of Us 2. They have to be fair. I hate that scene in the game.

Which only happened because Ubisoft gave people ammunition by screwing up repeatedly before that.

Fuck Ubisoft, but this has nothing to do with my hate for them. And I don't give a damn about fanboys, I'm talking about Japanese critics, I'm talking about Sucker Punch being given Ambassador status by the mayor of Tsushima after the game released. And funny enough, all the people bitching about GoT before release were woke assholes like Austin Walker crying about cultural appropriation. Isn't it interesting how silent that crowd is about Shadows?
Of course, it is and quite frankly I couldn't give a toss what a major said I doubt he even played the game anyways and I doubt the people bitching about Shadows have even played the game and it's just becoming an excuse for nobodies to jump on the hate wagon and get some likes on YouTube It's a video game it's not real and frankly, Ubisoft can do what it wants with any country represented its video games be that good or bad

. It is almost as sad as those people who get wound up about historical inaccuracies in films like Braveheart, and Gladiator The only time I agreed with a little bit, was with of uproar was in a film like U-571 but even then it's only a film and I enjoyed it regardless

And play exclusively as Yasuke and kill a lot of people while destroying the shrines.

I hope to god they play DMC on the soundtrack while you are doing this. Don’t forget that they are going to bomb Pearl Harbour and torture US prisoners of war yo!

Is it really Japan who is upset, or just a small, annoying vocal group?

Remember PETA writing articles outraged how Animal Crossing was promoting cruelty to animals by allowing you to catch butterflies? Hopefully, Japan wasn't under the impression America, in general, was greatly offended.

Hey, does everyone remember when...

the gaming press, the purple site, reddit, Ubisoft fanboys all claimed with great certainty it was only white western trolls that were pretending to be Japanese to be outraged?

Those were some good times back then.

Wait. I think they call that gaslighting, right?

It’s about a rich and woke New England family portrayed as always right with the villains being an Alex Jones style character who leads a “cult” (some people say they all wear a certain hat) as the villains.
Jesus Christ what a lame ass story. Who wants to play that?

I play videogames to get away from retarded shit like that

It's just sad at this point, they should've keep Yasuke only as a big side quest and develop on how a black person live in such an environment at the time, you know like how you develop a character and see how it could end, start to make good use of characters even with so little info whatever if it's the truth or not, at least Ubi wouldn't look like a fool

This series already trashed America (see AC3) so fair game. The only thing I want this game for is the gore. It looks brutal. But then I'd have to play a boring, lame Assassins Creed game.

And when Japan is asked about their common depictions of black people in their media:

They waste no time borrowing either:

As usual, love biting the culture but wouldn't be caught dead kicking it with folks. Goofiness.

I've never really been into Assassin's Creed but this bullshit and Yasuke suddenly being in loads of games and portrayed as the black Samurai seems like nothing more than virtue signalling to me and I can see why the Japanese are naffed off. I've nothing against them being against people taking liberties with their culture.

Could you imagine the outrage if a developer with that with historical Islamic figures? Oof.

At the end of the day, Yasuke has been given far more attention and media exposure than he deserves at this point, but Ubisoft could have made a great Japanese protagonist, they just decided not to and personally I think it's because they wanted to pander to one market than the other.

We are talking about the studio that pulls people into morale meetings if they don't lace their e-mails and messages with emoji's to display emotion?

Honestly, I'm not bothered what colour a protagonist has as their skin colour, sexuality, sex etc. But there comes a point where you know people aren't doing it tastefully anymore. Yasuke was quite well executed in Ni-Oh, but this just looks ridiculous.
