Linus Tech Tips: The PS5 Pro Killer Gaming PC (Here we go again)

The video should not be taken that seriously. He does list the PC components price new in a table and the conclusion is quite fair to the PS5 Pro. Hell, it’s way more fair then a lot of console focused channels have been. He even goes so far as to mention that the comparison is not perfect (mentioning the Mark Cerny call-out on the 1st video) because they already stacked the deck using second hand components.

True, I think I've just grown tired of his shtick

Sadly, he didn't.

What I posted was all new hardware and focused on Europe. 930 Euro PC, better in almost every aspect than pro. Vs 800 euro (or 900 with disc drive) Pro.

With user hardware pro would be demolished in price/performance ratio.

Let me guess, dead end platform with substandard parts bolted on?

It’s been ages since I’ve given Linus or affiliate sites a click. Aside from his disguising fuck face in the thumbnails he lost what little credibility had with the Apple M1 chips. The GN gate was just the last nail in the coffin.

Still mad at Linus for that bullshit with the cooler that gn blew him out for.

Literally stopped watching after that. Especially considering thats like the definition of punching down, that was a small company he basically ducked over because he wanted to save a few dollars?
Fuck that cat.

Does he even make any good content anymore?

I never see anyone mentioning the fact the Pro has 2 chips of RAM memory. Or the chip used for AI upscalling, and all of its custom parts built for it, like most consoles.

These videos mean nothing. Also using second hand shit...the PS5 Pro is literally brand new.

Again, none of this makes any sense.

It's never the other way around though, is it? How do you buy a PS5 that can beat a PC? There is none. Because the games displayed represent 1% of PS5's game library and 0,0001% of PC's game library. Where are the costs for paid online, disc drive (which is mandatory for console gaming) stick drift controllers and overpriced console games factored in? Nobody thinks the consoles are expensive in isolation. It's when you add in the added costs on top of the extremely limited choices and game library that the issues arise.

It's a shit comparison and it doesn't take into consideration the actual benefits of having a PC over a PS5 Pro. The PS5 Pro is primarily for PS5 owners who love its games and services and want the absolute best of that. It's not for PC gamers.

Then why even make the comparison in the fist place? It's PC players/channels who started this whole "I can build a better PC for the same price"

Here We Go Again GIF

As someone who has just spent more than 1k upgrading my system to the 9800X3D, this is quite possibly one of the most retarded videos I've come across.

Let's compare a brand new PS5 Pro against used PC parts.

Genius.

This. Even at a super discount PS+ is close to 100€ per year, multiply that by 5 years and that is 500€ extra added on top. Also more expensive games since you cannot shop around for keys. If you are also doing work on the PC there might be a case you don't need PS5+Laptop combo, which again is a different value proposition.

You can buy physical which is cheaper than digital and the used market exists too.

I love when people bring up the cost of PS+/Gold (which I don’t condone but I don’t find necessary) when comparing consoles to PC. Like, yeah, if I think about playing online to something the best experience that comes to my mind is PC.

Stop it Linus, you're giving the pc platform a bad rep at this point and making us look like absolute fools. Also, who the fuck builds a pc with used parts? Do you even know with absolute certainty what the actual condition of the parts themselves is, and what they were used for prior to the fact? To add insult to injury, we don't yet have Rdna 4 gpus in the market to match the Ps5 pro gpu and won't until Ces in early 2025, when Amd finally takes the wraps off. Stop milking the subject for views because it's bordering on obsession with the console at this point.

Goodness, the tongue-in-cheek aspect of the entire video seems like it was lost on the majority of folks here lol. It was fun once you got past the first, like, minute and a half.

Linus Tech Tips video sucks, that’s a shocker!

I think this whole endeavor would be more interesting in a couple of months with new Nvidia and AMD hardware out. Cost of Windows (pretty cheap), KBM and controller also should be included.

Plus, I will die on a hill that PS5 Pro cost should include the drive as only that allows you to buy games in different stores in at least somewhat similar manner as you can with PC games. And realistically you can probably include three years of PS+ Essentials since vast majority of people will want online saves and MP.

So in US prices, PS5 Pro competitor cost should be at around $1000 if we are being fair.

Why? It's electronics, as long as it works that RAM stick will deliver exactly the same performance as the new one, while giving you more value for your money. A car driving out of the salon loses 30% of value, is it now a different car?
Dude are you serious?? Who the fuck compares a brand new console with a PC with used parts??

There's no way you can achieve the same performance at the same price.

That's why idiots post these garbage clickbait videos and cheat with used parts.

Let's be real:
You can't achieve the same performance at the same PS5 pro price and consoles will never be able to compete with high End PC hardware. End of story.

And these cheap PCs do not include WiFi 7 either. In my case, that makes a significant difference with twitch shooters. Pro is also whisper quiet for me, and I doubt these cheap PCs are.
Wifi is not only unnecessary as is not recommended. Cable ftw.
100% of Pros are digital. Add a Blu-Ray drive to PC cost.
Why should he do it if zero PC games uses Blu-Ray drive??

What’s wrong with used parts?

I’ve build multiple PCs with “used like new”parts from Amazon and some good finds on FB/craigslist and I’ve never had a problem.

Now, if they are doing that they should compare their PC to a used PS5 pro tho, which should be a much a better deal than new anyway…

You don't watch Blu-Ray movies? Why do you need to buy a disc drive for PS5 Pro? Isn't PS5 70% digital in sales (games)?
My point is it's stupid to add extra costs if you aren't doing it both ways. Same with adding a controller to PC when keyboard and mouse are just fine (as long as those are added into the cost as well).

Pfff i give you one better.
Got shit on for saying the pro is not ready or worth a buy for another 4 to 6 months till devs actually use it to its fullest.
I am a sony fan mind you and even i start to find it a bit too much.
Now i will probably be banned for telling him my mind.
I’m honestly platform agnostic, but lean PC only because I prefer the versatility. I own an Xbox Series S only because it was $150 and also have a Switch which I really enjoy. I don’t think Microsoft or Sony have given people a clear reason to purchase either console this generation. The games have been.. just ok.

It’s kind of sad to say that in this generation I’ve spent more on switch games than any other.

No, and as you are including non gaming stuff on the price of the PC, should we include the price for running office, Photoshop, etc on console too???

I just skipped all the clickbait bullshit early on and went to the conclusion at the end. What he said is perfectly reasonable:
  • If you're on an FHD TV, you won't get much out of a Pro.
  • If you don't mind buying some used parts, you can get close. If you buy all new, you can't.
  • PS5 at least has the option for a disc drive where PC is effectively digital only.
I can't see what there is for people to disagree with here. If you don't like the silly attitude inherent to the videos on this channel, don't watch them.

How will I play Crysis without my PC disc drive?

100% of the PS5 games including back compatible games have digital version?

You will not only not play Crysis with a blu-ray, as there are several ways for you to get a digital version of the game, so at maximum price to be included is of a DVD drive.

They are PS4 games so I would guess yes? Can't find GTA I and II on PC without disc.
I have this.
