They already did the steam deck + dock. We have confirmation they're working on "powered by steam OS devices". Maybe that's only referring to handhelds, except we know their new gamepad is in mass production.

They're doing a console.
So not consoles.

The last official Steam MAU is 132m in 2021.

Since Helldivers 2 PSN MAU includes PC gamers so the metric cannot be trusted anymore to measure how the Playstation consoles are doing.

That’s even worse. That means less than 116m is across all Playstation consoles

Lmao. We should be glad it's not an Uncharted clone, and is instead a Deus Ex/Dishonored kinda game.

Uncharted Collection on PC didn't set the charts on fire.

So why would an Uncharted game be more succesful exactly?
Please don't compare immersive sims like Deus Ex and Dishonored to a shallow gameplay experience of Indiana. Dishonored especially is leagues ahead of Indiana when it comes to combat and stealth mechanics.

Compared to Uncharted Indiana didn't launch 7 years later on PC after it came out. I'm also highly doubtful Indiana will sell any decent amounts on consoles anyway, there's just no hype about the game amongst the gamers. And btw, I don't even like Uncharted lol, I couldn't even get myself to finish it. However, obviously Uncharted did something right because it was able to attract a big audience, something Indiana is miserably failing at.

Its still an immersive sim. You can play how you want. Various routes, possibilities and options at your disposal.

It's open ended nature does not mean it's an immersive sim. The game very much forces melee combat and stealth at you almost all the way through. Gunplay is purposefully gimped and made practically useless. That would all be cool if melee combat wasn't so janky and AI wasn't so stupid at times. The game was always gonna live and die by its choice to make fps melee combat the focus. If you gonna go make a non popular gameplay your primary focus then you better execute it well, which they obviously didn't.

Really need to stop projecting Xbox's woes on to the rest of consoles
It's the whole market tho. When Nintendo Sega lost market share with the Saturn and N64 the total addressable market didn't shrink it actually grew from around 85mil during the SNES and Genesis era to around 140mil with the PS1, Saturn, N64. So despite the N64 and Saturn selling way less than the SNES and Genesis respectively the PS1 brought in a bunch of new consumers and captured prior SNES and Genesis buyers.

Same thing happened with the PS2 era where the Gamecube sold less than N64 and the Dreamcast bombed yet the TAM grew even more and the PS2 alone sold 150m+ units while the Gamecube sold 22 and the DC only 9. The PS5 is not doing the same despite the Xbox underperforming like the N64/Genesis/Gamecube, unfortunately it seems like we're losing more console gamers then we're gaining. This is bad for everyone including PC as that means less gamers to get AAA game sales from.

But you are not accounting for Switch. Switch is close to becoming the best selling console of all time.

To be fair GameBoy, GameGear, GBC, GBA were all around. And that is significant chunk of folks as well. It’s hard to correlate exact numbers overall.

I don’t think the pot necessarily shrunk, but I don’t think it’s grown. PC is a wildcard though and publishers are getting more cash out of each customer with subs and MTX.

Not saying it has grown, but it has maintained for the most part. It has shrunk since the Wii/PS3/360 generation but that is because Wii was artificially inflated with non-gamers using Wii for fitness. But even if we just look at PS and Xbox. Those two hit 170 million with PS360. Last gen, PS4 and Xbox hit 160+ million even with Switch jumping in the fray mid-gen. So the market has a different dynamic, but I don't think we can say it is shrinking necessarily.

Yeah, it seems overall fairly steady and PC side grew. However we don’t have the 150 mil DS, 90 mil PSP, 80 mil 3DS anymore.

Which is why I it’s kind of difficult to do a 1 to 1.

But I agree overall that market is probably similar. This is why companies have to get more money from each customer because they have to create that shareholder value, Capitalism Ho😉!

Ppl reinstalling and warming up for MH Wilds, wonder which CCU numbers it'll get, but 500k+ easy, would say even 1M but the game being so popular on Asia + USA + Europe will make it harder to reach high numbers unlike games like Wukong that are focused on one region, American players will be sleeping while Asia reaches their peak CCU numbers for example.
