Sony’s first State of Play of 2025 set record of over 2 million concurrent viewers

I agree, but with Housemarque, gameplay is never in doubt, personally.
we all knew housemarque was working on something for the last 4 years. i dont understand why i should get hard over a cg announcement.

sony used to be way better at doing announcements. if it wasnt a 10 minute demo like they did for HZD, KZSF, GOW 2018, and Days Gone, they would release great teasers like GoT, TLOU2, and HFW. I have no idea who the fuck thinks going back to E3 2005 style CG trailers is a way to reveal a game. If anything, Concord's CG trailer made everyone think it was an awesome action adventure sci fi game only to find out it was overwatch. It completely blew up in their face and they are sticking to this retarded way of showing games.

I mean I would assume that most people voted thinking C = C+, C, and C-

that's how I voted at least
Maybe, but the poll doesn't distinguish between those. Granted some people use them and others don't in general.

In the voting thread after the SoP I voted C, and across the board no matter my decision I wasn't going to us + or -.

I'm not being hyperbolic, so neither should you in response.

All 3 suck as far as I'm concerned since they ditched the E3 trade shows for mainly the internet and social media engagement. Trade shows they had to actually spend money to present, thus they tried much harder. They had trade show money in the 10s of millions on the line.

I get that. my point is, if people weren't given an option to vote for C- they may have simply voted for C. that means the results of the poll for 'C' included people who meant to vote for C-

meaning that % isn't wholly indicative of being average, since it includes C-, which is poor

When I was in school and as far back as I remember C has always been average. It sits in the middle of the letter grading system.

A
B
C
D
F

E wasn't used, I don't know why, but that's how it is.
In school, C is 70%. D is 65. Anything below 65 is an F. If you get a 70, thats a 2.0 GPA. That is NOT average. You are not getting into any university with a 2.0 GPA.

In colleges, C is passing. C- and they make you repeat. So in effect C-, D+, D, D- and F are all failing.

Bottomline is there is no bubble here. The vast majority of the people disliked the show.

Bullshit.

We never know what a studio is going to do. They could have chased GaaS and everyone would be in an uproar, because Returnal didn't necessarily light the world on fire sales wise.

The CGI reveal trailer confirmed two things:

1). It's Gameplay First and NOT GAAS
2) We get a glimpse of the art style/world/character/enemies and a hint of the lore and it looks AWESOME

So yeah, reason to be excited and reason to say that's a damn good teaser trailer. When I saw the bullet hell I knew immediately it was Housemarque and that had me hyped

True. At the same time that lumps C+, and just C's together.

McDonalds hamburgers.

You mean Mcdonalds Realty

There are a bunch of missing asterisks that come with the grades C- and below. It's not that extremely black and white.

Obviously you can see it this way if you break down the scores into numbers like that based on ?

And why do you think the scoring system uses only A through F (and skips E...)?

C is considered Average as that indicates (for many schools) a satisfactory perfomance.
As in Average passing work.

And if my son would have come home with a bunch a Cs on his report card this dad would have been pretty upset

Getting Cs did not get him into College on academic scholarships

I have had several surgeries on my shoulder and wrist and according to plaques on their walls my surgeons didn't get Cs in med school

It may be satisfactory for schools to pass the kid up the chain and it may be satisfactory for people viewing a game show I guess I just demand better

I wonder what Joe Schmoe gamer thinks of the current state of games and the industry as it stands.

OP reminded me how much of a bubble gaming enthusiast boards are.

Glad to see rigorous polling methodology in play. Much quality analysis can be done off the back of twitter and Neogaf. /s

That is not a comment in support or not of the State of Play, just an observation that these types of polls are absolutely meaningless, they in no way are a good cross section of the market.

lol in the two most active threads on gaf we're:
  1. arguing the semantics of a 'C' grade in the context of the USA education system in one thread, and
  2. counting the number of females in Avowed in the other thread
never change

Uh oh. View count wars again.

Reminds of the YT count threads a year or two ago which went like this:

- Hey look! Brand X's YT video got more viewers than Brand Y's video!
- Do the math folks. More views = more sales!
- But Nintendo videos can get a fraction of the views but their games sell a ton more than Brand X or Y games
- ........... dead silence.

Well I watched it because I thought Parasite eve remake was real. Im still dissapointed with very few exclusive, I think it its just one, Saros. And some so called exclusives but will actually be ported to pc and majority are multiplatforms. I hope Sony will have a showcase with 1st and 2nd party exclusives games only.

where do you see this? 99% of the threads see on GAF are AAA related

I remember people asking for more indie games in the early 2010s

this narrative seems tired and old. vast majority of hype threads I see, be it Sony, MS or Nintendo, are for AAA titles
And 99% of people in those AAA related threads are whining about how devs are too focused on AAA.
End of the day whether it's AAA or indie, gamers just want good games shown. And when any big company still doesn't show their top secret game they plugged a year ago it pisses gamers off.

If a show is AAA focused, they want any low budget or indie games shown to be cool too - not some junky crap or a Lego game. If it's an indie focused show, but some high profile games are snuck in, they want something unique. Not COD shown.

Universally, I think most gamers hate those shitty CGI trailers or ones that dont even show anything but Game X from Company Y Coming Soon.

I think the low ratings from people just shows that most people don't really want to see new IPs, especially Japanese games.

They want their western dev sequels.
This is partly true unfortunately.
If it's a new ip it has to be something that really blows everyone away or else it'll be largely discounted until release.

I'd expect some Bloodborne related news in June or whenever the next SoP is.

Its pretty obvious to me that they wouldn't want to distract FROM's Elden Ring Nightreign promotional cycle. Especially given their sizable stake in Kadokawa.

What people clamoring for news seem to forget is that there's more to publishing than just shunting stuff out onto market as soon as possible.

Lot of people disappointed in one small session.

I'd be surprised if they ever hit that count again.

lol gaf bubble? Even a safe space era had the same poll results. Keighleys twitter poll as well.

Maybe try icon era if you want a Sony bubble.

Nah..

As much as era sucks, the discourse around the State of Play was a lot more logical and level headed than the stuff that happened/is happening here.
