Read the OP. Was always steam CCU, not vague "number of players" from a tweet.

What "vague 'number of players'" are you talking about?

I voted for 100k so we'll see how it goes on Steam over the opening weekend, I think it has the potential to be more popular than Veilguard (it will definitely outsell it overall)

Fewer people playing than during the afternoon.
We'll see how it does over the weekend.
I wonder how many of those "million players" actually translate into copies sold.

Before I said they might end up doing alright with 100k even if it's not a big success but looking at it now and how huge of a franchise AC is plus it being set in Japan. This should have been a lot more popular like more than 200k at least even on the weekdays even with the controversy. More than Stalker 2 at the very least which was also on gamepass. Especially a big named franchise in 2025 where there's more gamers now. It's honestly not looking good. This needs at least 200k to 300k to be consider successful, not even super successful but just successful.

And the one million players just seem like a bad thing to announce when it's not even copies sold. I guess they were trying to ensure investors that it's doing good so far? But even than people would quickly point out it's players and not copies sold. And as mentioned before 1 million player in 24 hour even if it was copies, still won't look that impressive for a game on this level of hype, popularity, and budget.

Ubisoft are the ones pushing "Ubisoft+" so hard and their executive even said gamers should get used to not owning their games

This is what Ubisoft wants

Oh, ok - so the authenticity of the represented culture is important for the game to be good?

Thanks, I will keep that in mind!
???
That aspect never crossed my mind.

I actually always say the opposite, I always decide the language based on the language of the original creator.
Watching a Japanese made movie written in Japanere first and foremost? watch it in Japanese, doesn't matter if its set in modern day new york.

The creators recommend the immersive mode as they way the game was made to be played. And hey if it sucked i could get it, but we've known for ages it sounded great. People hear the shitty English version and choose to use it..

With all due respect... if AC Valhalla was SO successful, Ubi wouldn't be in today's situation. Given he sheer number of employees and polemics around Ubi and this game.. this needs to be something like Elden Ring + Monster Hunter + Astrobot to save Ubi.
Bad management

Didn't hit a new peak last night but it's peaking now.

It's going up slowly and I'm not seeing much genuine buzz for the game. I'm thinking 60k will be the highest it could go.

I asked Grok his prediction for funsies and he put it between 50-55k. Curious to see if he nails it.

Is this the best one since Black Flag?

If this is anything like the utter shite of Oddesy, Valhalla and the Egypt one, then fuck off.

Syndicate and Untiy can chew a fat one also.

I'm interested to see the sale in the U.S. for this game. It's peaking at noon EST the last two days, wtf is that about?

Grok told me, basically, the same thing:

Predicting the exact peak concurrent user numbers for Assassin's Creed Shadows on Steam is tricky since it depends on a variety of factors like player reception, competing releases, and how the game performs over time. However, we can make an educated guess based on the data we already have and trends from past Assassin's Creed titles.
As of right now, on March 21, 2025, Assassin's Creed Shadows has already hit an all-time peak of 41,412 concurrent players on Steam, according to SteamDB data reported shortly after its launch on March 20, 2025. This number comes from its first day, and historically, many games see their highest concurrent player counts at or shortly after launch, especially during the first weekend when more people have time to play. Since today is Friday, we're heading into that weekend window, which could push the numbers higher.
Looking at past Assassin's Creed games on Steam for comparison:
  • Assassin's Creed Odyssey peaked at 62,069 players.
  • Assassin's Creed Origins reached 41,541 players.
  • Assassin's Creed Valhalla hit 15,679 players, though it had a delayed Steam release, which likely impacted its numbers.
Shadows has already surpassed Valhalla and is neck-and-neck with Origins, but it's still well behind Odyssey. The game's launch timing on a weekday (Thursday) means the peak might climb further as the weekend hits—potentially today or tomorrow, March 22, 2025. Posts on X and various web reports suggest some expect it could reach 50,000 or more if momentum builds, though others argue it won't break 100,000 due to competition (like Monster Hunter Wilds) and mixed sentiment around Ubisoft's recent track record.
Given the strong initial reception (80%+ "Very Positive" reviews on Steam) and the hype for a feudal Japan setting, I'd estimate the peak could climb to around 50,000–60,000 concurrent players over this launch weekend, assuming no major technical issues or drop-off in interest. It's unlikely to hit Odyssey's 62,000+ unless word-of-mouth and weekend availability really boost it beyond expectations. On the flip side, it's already outperformed some predictions (e.g., sub-25,000) and has a shot at being the third-biggest Assassin's Creed launch on Steam if it sustains growth.
What's your take—do you think it'll push past 60,000 or settle lower?

I'll try asking again tomorrow to see if the prediction changes. Grok could be a fun prediction tool if it's somewhat accurate.

Fewer people playing than during the afternoon.
We'll see how it does over the weekend.
I wonder how many of those "million players" actually translate into copies sold.

socvMPH.png
Why does it matter? It's all revenue to Ubisoft at the end of the day. Copies sold is fast becoming a meaningless metric in gaming when you take into account trials, subscription services, discounted copies, free to play games (that make more money than god).

Also let's not forget that Assassin's Creed has long been a console game. If it sells 5 million copies in its first month then at least 3 million of them are going to be on PS5 alone and there's still a Switch 2 version to come aswell as price drop copies. Most of the big Sony games sales like Horizon, Spider-Man, God of War etc are 75% sub $20.

Remember they have a sub service called Ubisoft+. This is why they are talking about the "player" numbers. Also again, the game is full price on steam and cheaper at other PC key sites which only offer the ubi connect copies so steam isn't even a good place to get a sense of how well the game is doing imo.

But we will see, I think most people thought this game was going to be total flop so with that considered I think its done decent so far.

The gaming news for this game sales will be just like previous bombs:

*It's selling amazing, eat shit chuds
*Okay it didn't sell as much as needed but it's still a hit
*Okay it isn't a hit, it's kinda bombed, but Ubisoft will survive
*Ubisoft firing employees but they are still working on a new Asscreed!
*Ubisoft shutting down
*Fuck you chuds why didn't you buy the game?
Perfect summary, has happened enough times to be a standard practice by now

Time for Ubisoft employees to freshen up their CVs because half of Dragon Age Failguard numbers are atrocious. Its a much bigger IP than Dragon Age and most likely cost more to make and marketing wise its more expensive if outlaws is any indication. Au revoir!

The Steam review is actually not shabby, sitting at 79% right now, close to the review aggregation. @EviLore boss man can the mod team add the Steam user score info to the title?
Yeah I was going to say, it's currently behind Veilguard numbers so that's not good for a game that had like 2,000 employees and however many years.

If we just go by Steam CCU stats then Fifa games all sell terribly instead of being some of the best-selling games out there. Not saying AC Shadows is doing massively well or anything, but probably need to wait for console numbers as well before calling it a failure. AC Odyssey peaked at 62k and that game went on to sell 10 million +.
