It's because MS says so. Yes, they are trying to deceive you, but you can get actual data if you realize how they're doing it. They're using the # of days available in November to try to make their numbers look better. If you extrapolate what Sony would have had to sell in order to beat it, you can get an upper limit.
That being said, someone else in the thread used 16 days, so my numbers may be off by a bit.

Well with the 3DS doing about average and the Wii U presumably doing pretty badly, I can see why they might want to just not report this month.

Eh, not really. If what we hear is correct, the XB1 is selling more units daily than the PS4. The PS4 outsold the XB1 only because it launched a week earlier. With all the reports of PS4 shortages in the US and MS restocking suppliers, I think its very safe to assume that MS is going to beat out Sony in December.

You bought a new shiny kick ass next gen system for $399. Why the hell would people shell out another $250 for handheld that they have zero interest in with last gen graphics? People who expect the PS4 to boost Vita sales are setting themselves up for a huge disappointment. Hell, I even think the PS4 will do the exact opposite. Vita sales will now decline even more because of all the PS4 hype.

Thanks to the good people on GAF I atleast learned where Nelson got his fastest averaging consoles sold quote from. It is bizarre. Really dislike the public dishonesty in their mincing off words used by MS. It further separates my desire to own their console.

300k would at least be a 500% increase over October, and at least worth spinning. we have nothing but COMPLETE silence from ninty, and that is BAD.
also, 300k is nearly 45% of the 3DS+2DS number, which is sort of unbelievable given the ratio between the two all year.
I'm starting to think this is true:

Next gen is here. Incredible launch for the PS4 and Xbox One. PS4 top selling system, but anybody have the exact number yet? 909,132 for the Xbox One in just 8 days on the market is pretty awesome for a $500 system. And if I'm not mistaken, they did a worldwide launch on the 22nd. I can see why they said the system sold through 1 million units in 24 hours now, because NA pretty much covered the lion's shares of the sold units.
Where are people seeing the software sales? Either way, this is an incredibly strong start for both systems. Congrats to both Sony and MS! I knew something went wrong when GAF wouldn't load for like 5 minutes lol.
