The reception of Assassin’s Creed Shadows in Japan, based on Amazon Japan sales and reviews, is brutal

Killing innocent people in Assassins Creed games will lead to a game over screen.
Shadows is Naoes story, Yasuke is basically a side character, dont play him if you dont want a black man to be killing asian people.

I take it you havent actually played any of the Assassins Creed games, and most certainly havent played this game so maybe just put the topic on ignore and dont spout your ignorance here.
Interesting how can spin this to player choice rather than see the contradiction right after your first statement. The fact that the Animus allows you to control Yasuke meant he too is bound by the rules in that program. And your handwaving attempt speaks more about your attitude in this side of the controversy.

The Woke mob celebrating 2 mILliOn pLaYeRs!! for an AC game is the saddest thing you see here

a game from a calibre franchise like AC should be doing MHW number, 8 million sold in 3 days
I wonder if these people will ever learn that "2 million players" is as dire as it gets for an IP like this, or well... The juggernaut it used to be.

Why should it need to do those numbers? According to whom

ALOT of assumptions there but I appreciate the analysis.

Remember the unconfirmed spider-man 2 break even number included cuts sent to Disney which won't apply to this game.

Rumor and speculation has inflated game budgets a lot over the years with not much concrete info.

E.g. the old marketing doubles development costs came from a single speculative article about GTA5.

The same Sony leak suggested that marketing budgets are about 20 to 25 million dollars. A lot to be sure but a far cry from doubling development costs.
The only assumption was average salary. Low end salary is 50k, high end is $130k.

The fact is there is 600 employees for Ubisoft Quebec. Development did start in 2018. Even if each employee only made $50k a year, that's still $180M just on salary.

Cuz you would know that killing innocent people leads to game over otherwise.
You posit your argument that a black guy is going around killing civilians as if its part of the gameplay loop, its literally a fast way to desync.
You would know this if you had played an Assassins Creed game.
I also surmise you havent played this game because you would also know that its almost entirely Naoes story, with Yasuke being a supporting character, who doesnt even play like an Assassin.....hell he doesnt even have a hidden blade.

Im not dismissing your points, im fully rebutting them because your argument is in bad faith and doesnt represent what the game is.
Yasuke isnt going around just killing people randomly, the game actively punishes you for doing so.
You also dont HAVE to play as Yasuke for the vast vast vast majority of the game, if you have such issue with a black guy killing, then dont play the black guy.
You don't desync after killing one civilian. You can kill as many servants as you want without desync, right? Maybe civilian wasn't the right word to use, the fact is that as Yasuke, a foreigner, you kill native Japanese people.

Personally I don't care. The people who do care probably didn't give a shit about killing African Zombies in RE5. But on the other hand, the people who were up in arms about Resident Evil 5 being racist are the same people dismissing Yasuke killing Japanese people.

That's what I'm getting at. People cherry pick what controversies they fight for not because they actually have any personal moral stance, they do it because people they're ideologically opposed to are on the other side of the controversy.

Not to be contrarian, but I am far from worshipping a country that:

Has incredibly prolific hentai scene in order to Cather to people attracted to minors because “it’s just drawing”

Has a market for girl panties and gravure swimsuit photoshoots of 12-years olds

Committed unspeakable horrors during WWII, with Japanese camps showing mortality rate far in excess of the Nazi ones

Has an economy that barely grew in the last 30 years but for some reason everyone is still working super late to please their bosses

Japan is awesome - the ancient one. The shogun, the castles, etc. Modern one is thrash.

Right now, the game’s ranking at 98 and getting dunked on by AA titles like Split Fiction and Atelier Yumia and rocking a solid 2 out of 5 stars.

But if you wanna see real brutality, check out the reviews… I thought Japanese people were polite :messenger_grimmacing_

Looks like Ubisoft made a lot of enemies in Japan:messenger_grinning_sweat:
I'm glad for Japan. They are wonderful people and have made many positive contributions to the world.

I’ve never seen the president of a country shit on a video game on their national television. Congrats Ubosft, you’re spreading ‘awareness’ and ‘social justice.’

To be honest, from what I played so far, Ubisoft has done a great job representing the Japanese culture. Yes, Yasuke might be out of place but the rest of the game has been great. I think those people giving bad reviews probably havent touched the game and are repeating the same silly arguments they hear on the internet
That is the stupid society we live on now, most of the criticism comes from people that haven't touched the game and won't do it, they just need to follow the cancel culture because it is so edgy!!!!

This says far more about the quality of remarks coming from their president than it does about the quality of a game.

EDIT: Apparently, the comment was in error anyway. Bruh, stop overexaggerating and sensationalizing.

They are hypocritical assholes.
This is one of more respectful games set in Japan made by westerners.
There is even a message reminding not to climb tori gates because of respect and other stuff like that. It portrays Japan beautifully like almost o other game.

Where are their issues with rise of ronin? Oh wait. It’s made by Japanese dev… so it’s fine… right.
Spot on. I bet if this game was made by the Yakuza team no one would give a hell about fighting near a Shrine

The game is wonderful, people are missing out by not playing this

They’re not obligated to buy it and it was clear that not much care was put into details and accuracy despite the comments of certain devs at Ubisoft.

With that said, it’s not universal hate. I have tuned into a few Japanese live streams and some people seem to enjoy it quite a bit. The Ubisoft Japan localization team were in a challenging situation, but they actually did a great job. The voice acting in particular is well done and comes across as authentic rather than a sloppy translation.

DEI(A) stands for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility......it doesnt mean forced diversity or whatever......but i guess just like Woke got colonized imma guess DEI(A) has also been colonized to mean something else entirely.

Note. Yasuke is an actual historical figure he was black and was in feudal japan.
Was he a Samurai who knows who cares......was Pope Alexander VI super powered who knows who cares....did Napoleon hypnotize his enemies with ancient aliens tech who knows who cares.

This story plays out not dissimilarly to many other fish out of water stories including Japanese white Samurai stories.
The real beef seems to be Yasuke being black.
Woke mob will claim DEI is fair, normal/sane ppl know DEI means forcing diversity, and AC:S is prime example of it.
Pro tip- if ur take on DEI is similar to rainbow forum maybe consider urself leftist af and living in woke bubble, most ppl in the world have wastly different views on that.
