What features are you hoping to see on the PS6?

Do you guys think the PS6 will go with nvme gen 4 storage again to keep the cost down or do you think gen 5 storage would be so cheap by then that they'd go with that for even faster loading speeds? Though gen 5 drives tend to run hotter as well, plus diminishing returns...

pcie 5 nvme's are cheaper already due to volume of manufacturing so it wouldn't make sense in 3/4 years to go with pcie 4.

3D V-Cache is not happening on consoles anytime soon, SoIC-X is very expensive and slow.

GPU is an early fork of gfx13, so just like PS5 it will be missing some features of UDNA.
How do you think they would solve the AI/ML bandwidth issue, other than what we saw in the PS5 Pro tech breakdown?

Sounds stupid but I would love a real time, Forza style pause/rewind feature for every game, that's controlled at the system level somehow.

Rumours are hdmi 2.2 will support 4k 240hz, if that's the case then TV's will start to support it, we should find out at CES in January. But i think it's unlikely for PS6/NextXbox to have 240fps games, you need an insane amount of CPU and GPU power to push that .

1. Much better Graphics and Performance

  • 4K/8K(depending on the game) resolution with more advanced ray tracing, global illumination, and real-time volumetric effects will deliver hyper-realistic visuals.
  • The next iteration of PSSR, designed for the PS6, is poised to push the boundaries of visual fidelity even further. Here’s what to expect: AI-Powered Upscaling :
    • Deep Learning Algorithms: The next PSSR could integrate advanced neural networks trained to recognize intricate details in textures, lighting, and shadows. This would allow the system to upscale visuals to near-native 8K quality with remarkable accuracy.
    • Texture Restoration: AI could reconstruct missing details from low-resolution assets, making older games look sharper and more detailed than ever before.
  • Liquid Metal Cooling 2.0: A refined cooling system to sustain peak performance with near-silent operation.
  • Custom CPU & GPU: Leveraging cutting-edge AMD RDNA 5 architecture and Zen 5 cores, we can expect frame rates consistently at 60fps, or above, even in demanding open-world games.
  • AI-Powered Enhancements: Integrated AI for real-time asset optimization, procedural world generation, and adaptive NPC behavior.

2. Revolutionary Storage and Loading Times

  • Ultra-Fast SSD 2.0: Double the speed of the PS5’s SSD, enabling instant game launches and seamless transitions between vast environments without loading screens.
  • Expandable Storage: Plug-and-play NVMe Gen5 SSDs with auto-formatting for user convenience.

3. Gamepad Evolution: The DualSense 2

  • Advanced Haptics: More precise feedback, simulating textures, impacts, and environmental effects. Imagine feeling raindrops or footsteps in a puddle!
  • Adaptive Triggers 2.0: Even more customizable resistance for immersive gameplay, perfect for fine control in racing or shooting games.
  • Built-in OLED Screen: A small touchscreen to display in-game stats, notifications, or even act as a mini-map.
  • Modular Design: Swappable components (e.g., analog sticks, d-pads) for personalized ergonomics.
  • Extended Battery Life: Up to 20 hours of gaming with rapid USB-C charging.

4. Expanded Cloud and Social Features

  • Hybrid Console Design: Seamless integration between local hardware and Sony’s cloud streaming services, ensuring high fidelity even on lower-bandwidth connections.
  • AR/VR Integration: Enhanced support for PSVR 3, with lighter headsets, expanded tracking, and augmented reality overlays for hybrid experiences.
  • Social Gaming Evolution: AI-generated highlight reels, real-time multiplayer coaching, and advanced spectator modes.

5. Backward Compatibility and Legacy Support

  • Ultimate Library Access: Complete backward compatibility with all prior PlayStation generations, with AI-enhanced upscaling for older titles.
  • Game Preservation: Options to archive and play legacy games in their original fidelity or remastered formats.

Conclusion

The PS6 and Next XBox isn’t just about more power, it’s about redefining the gaming experience. I hope Sony and Microsoft are poised to deliver a console that bridges the gap between imagination and reality, offering unparalleled immersion, connectivity, and innovation.

My two cents :D

Frame gen 😄

It wouldn't have to be 240 FPS native

I’m never particularly worried about the hardware or OS side of things with Sony, it’s all usually great. Although if I could have one wish it’s that the form factor is a lot smaller than base Ps5, and that it doesn’t look like a cheap router.

What I want is just more exclusive games out of the gate (not 3-4 years of cross-gen stuff), and more games in genres I care about. It kind of sucks that they barely even try to bring out kart racers, party games etc. anymore imo. A lot more fun and wacky stuff like Astro Bot is what I’d like to see. Make an Astro Bot Kart racer or something at the same (or better) quality as Mario Kart/ Sonic Racing. Give PlayStation All-Stars another try. Etc.

Games that use the hardware. I feel like this gen has been super disappointing for exclusives it still feels like we've barely even seen the start of them properly yet. Nothing released these days seems to catch my attention at all.

No waste of money on useless controller gimmicks and bullshit secret sauce, just gimme the most powerful, balanced hardware you can make for 600 dollars or more.

A fucking disc drive, you tight bastards.

Nothing yet.
They should delay the next gen.
The developers can't keep up, AAA is dying and the jump becomes less noticeable.

PS1 to PS3 full retrocompatibility and ALSO(because it's not enough), retrocompatibility with the older peripherals like the DualShock.

2028 is plenty of time isn't it?

That's where i'm thinking they will launch.

2027 is too early, if it goes beyond 2028 then the hardware will fall behind way too much and might it self be a burden on devs.

Full playstation backwards comaptibility with past generation of playstations.... I wish.

They already have emulators for ps1 and ps2.

Just need to sort out the ps3 one.

whatever physx cards would have been today if the whole idea would not have been swallowed by nvidia and now kinda forgotten. or at very least a proper havoc successor??? some VR games dabble with physics, but so much is still so jarringly static.

Firstly I want to see bangers, games worth owning a 'next-gen' console - unlike the PS5 a.k.a. PS4 Pro+.

Secondly a native disc drive that doesn't rely on an online activation.

Lastly I don't give a shit about TF, RDNA and whatsoever, with a few exceptions, the developers no longer have the engines under control anyway, less computing power would almost be desirable so that the studios are forced to optimize their games sensibly. Especially with regard to the Unreal Engine and the approach of bruteforcing performance through computing power, I see this as problematic.

Aside from the usual power upgrades. I just want an Edge with 4 back paddles and far greater battery life. Would be good if they can quit with the white aesthetic too.

A lot of what I want is how their library of games is set up and QOL improvements in the UI and their policies.

I want them to sort out their stupid licensing system and make it clear what you ‘own’ and what is from a current subscription and what subscription it’s from. Is it from extra or a monthly game etc.. as it’s not always clear especially once it’s in your library.

Id also like them to ban all the different versions of games Ithis goes for whole industry) just have a standard one and then DLC packages, get rid of ultimate, deluxe, super duper versions.

Bring back proper custom themes.

Quick resume like feature ala XSX for multiple games at a time.

When I click on a game I don’t want to have to click on the drop down and then select “view product” or change version etc just show me all the information. This also goes back to just 1 version for each game. I don’t want a different page for the ps4 version either. 1 game = 1 store page/library page.

Cloud saves - should be standard. If not then at least give the option to pay 99p a month or something for certain amount of storage like iCloud and google does. As someone who doesn’t play online multiplier often I shouldn’t have to pay £60 a year for PS Plus to get cloud saves.

Save back up - if you won’t give me cloud saves as above then let me put my saves on a usb stick without having to do full system backup.

Refund/game trials - allow refunds based on time played like steam. Or even better strike a deal with most publishers to allow game trials on all games. Even if just for an hour.

Separate all the bloat in the store. Fed up with going through shovelware and dlcs / micro transactions when there’s a sale on

Hardware

give us 2 accessible M.2 slots, 1 preinstalled etc and 1 for expansion
hire better designers because the ps5 looks shit.
Allow dual sense to work on ps6 games
Dolby vision on games, disc movies and streaming apps
Digital audio out port

Software

I’d kind of like them to limit their cross gen period too.first year fine. But after that I’d like all first party (and ideally 3rd party AAA) to be ps6 only. I’d rather devs left the ps5 behind completely once ps6 releases but it won’t happen. The one downside to backwards compatibility I guess.

I'm a simple man. Give me 60 fps with good graphics, a disc drive, and the option to turn that silly controller light off, and I'll be happy.

I just want a disc drive or the option to add one, backwards compatibility, and improvements to the dual sense like hall effect sticks

Well, something realistic, the last zen cpu on the market (with less Mhz...) 24-32 Gb of GDDR7 memory and a GPU with more importance in AI hardware than in raw raster power.

Just better games.

And that’s not snark. Both Sony and MS will make excellent consoles. The stagnancy in the industry is not technical, it’s creative.

  • 3D V-CACHE SoC;
  • Improved PSSR;
  • bigger battery on the dualsense;
  • Path Tracing;
  • 32Gb of the latest RAM available (I would love it to be higher, maybe 48 or even 64Gb, but I think it's unrealistic);
  • Maybe the use of machine learning for denoising RT;
  • Blu-ray drive;
  • AV1 encoder for broadcast / improved broadcast capabilities;
  • New Astro Bot bundled with each console.

A 32GB GDDR7 configuration would be too expensive for a console. I'd expect something like 24GB through 3GB modules.

Graphically I'm good really so maybe have amazing ray tracing and keep it at 60-120fps?

I'd like to be able to insert any disc from ps1 through ps5 and HAVE THEM FUCKING WORK!

That's it :)

Thank God.

I can't even imagine how abysmal someone's monitor/TV must be for them to desire 240Hz, let alone 480Hz..
I have 2 monitors that run 240hz and one of those has a 480hz mode

An LG 45” ultrawide OLED that does 240 and currently playing with an ASUS ROG 32” 4k 240hz monitor that has a 1080p 480hz mode and I can assure you neither of these displays are abysmal

Its one of those things you have to see and expererience. 480hz on an OLED is CRT-like motion clarity.
It was precisely the point.

You need 480fps to achieve something proper technology achieved with simple 60fps twenty years ago, and as a matter of fact not even, as we had a Thread here showcasing you would need 1000fps for true CRT motion.

On the latest Panasonic plasmas using 3000Hz sub-field drive, simple 60fps also was CRT-like.

Now imagine the graphic/technical disparity between a console game running at 60fps vs 480fps, when a simple more effective monitor/TV technology could have the former looking smoother than the latter.
