Who are Xdev ?

I don’t think they made something interesting to me at least otherwise I would have heard the name
They partner with external studios to bring games to the PlayStation. They have two divisions in Europe and Japan (took over the role of Japan Studio) that provide support from co-developing to publishing. Until Dawn (Supermassive), Returnal (Housemarque), Stellar Blade (SHIFT UP), Rise of the Ronin (Team Ninja), Wipeout: Omega Collection (Co-Development) , etc. are the type of games they've worked on.

I hope the show will be focus on ps5 exclusive this time. Oh well, too much speculation. I'm not expecting to much. Back to work for me, and hope for the best show.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Why would a third-party game that's already on PS5 be revealed for PC at a PlayStation State of Play?

Because SIE is the publisher of the game and would most likely be the publisher on PC as well?

Stellar Blade is great, though.
Because it's going to be a trailer which contains mainly the last DLC / expansion for PS5, and ends with a GOTY edition port for PS5/PC.

I'm going to be harsh and knock a letter grade off for every game remake shown.

edit-and add a letter grade for every PC port.

Koei Tecmo has a new AAA studio filled with people from Team Ninja and they are releasing a game in 2025. I'm guessing Xdev, who co-developed Nioh 1/2 and Rise of the Ronin, is co-developing this game. Probably with Playstation publishing

Cause y’all ran the competition off. Ain’t no real incentive to go all in on blowin’ minds when you got loyalists who gon’ mindlessly cop whatever you drop.
Yep, no competion means Sony execs can do what the cable guys did in that episode of South Park where they had holes cut in their shirts and rubbed their nipples when people rang in to complain

You don't even know how IGNORANT and stupid it is to still hate on forspoken.
It only shows that you wouldn't know a good game if it was shoved in your face.
Forspoken is a fantastic game and insomniac can suck my dick
Once you have grand kids , you will tell them about your adventures in Athia.

Of course it will be told as a true story.
YOu will then describe the sensation you got in your whole boddy after receiving the perfect blowjob followed by a rimjob followed by what i call Angry dragon from an insomniac employee of transgender nature.

XDEV = SIE's eXternal DEVelopment team

They are in charge of publishing and support all their 2nd party games and have 3 teams:
  • NA: Midnight Murder Club, previously Journey, The Witness, The Order, Hohokun or even Crash or Spyro...
  • EU: Until Dawn, Helldivers, Sackboy Adventures, previously LBP, Housemarque stuff like Returnal or Quantic Dream...
  • JP/Asia: Demon's Souls, Bloodborne, Death Stranding, Physint, Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin, Lost Soul Aside, Convallaria, previously Parappa, Everybody's Golf, Wild Arms, Tomba ...
They also handle the support teams (both internal or external) for the internally developed games.

I fear that they will use the SoP to do a last ditch effort promotion for AC Shadows.
I was thinking that until I noticed they just uploaded a trailer on the PlayStation YouTube channel a few minutes ago.

Hopefully we see nothing of it.

Not possible within the restrictions of the format. Its utterly impossible for any single platform do the equivalent of 4 E3 scale keynote's a year. Doubly so given the extreme length of dev cycles on current hardware.

Sorry, but its just indefensible at this point not to accept how much everything has changed over the past decade.

Who said anything about 4 e3 scale keynotes a year?

Jesus why do people jump to straw man arguments?

I think they could be expected to do a showcase. They did one in 2023 (poorly) and none in 2024.

I hate having good & exquisite taste, because all I see of interest for me there is Ghost of Yotei. And even that will probably dissapoint to some extent since I don't think they will be able to get rid of the Ubisoft-like dead open world gameplay.

As for Microsoft Game Studios Xbox ports, I'm only really interested in the State of Decay franchise and maybe Hellbalde 2 (the latter at half the launch price).

Guess I'll just have to rely on 3rd parties for my gaming fix.

Imagine saying you have good and exquisite taste and then saying you're looking forward to hellblade 2 more than the games on that list...

That's not the point.

It's not in Sony's style via announcements.

Unless it's one of those cases where Bungie retains autonomy in their projects and this is something they've had cooking for a while alongside Marathon (?)

But in general I agree, who fucking asked for this when they've been radio silent on Marathon for damn near 2 years since announcement.

The biggest problem with these things presented as video is that they're boring while being relatively short.
PS needs to edit the best parts of the live event down to something short that hits like a rock video directed by Guy Ritchie in his prime.
Jump cuts, driving music and enough excitement to get people looking forward to the coming year - something no one can turn away from.
Condense the 40min event into a short advertisement for those of us with zero patience that aren't already excited about what PS is doing in '25.

I dunno if I agree with that TBH. Personally I like a meaty show, as long as it's filled with actual gameplay and (preferably) uninterrupted gameplay segments. I feel what you're describing could be better served for sizzle reels and trailer cuts, maybe to advertise the events and whatnot. Tease a bit of what's going to be there and such.

You can have great pacing while still having an event with substance; just know your games and decide on the best arrangement. It's like being a DJ: you gotta know how to mix really well to carry a set.

Please no hellblade 2 in the state of play. Don't waste your time on that. Only way for Microsoft games to be advertised by playstation is if Microsoft pays them. Otherwise a simple youtube video will suffice.

Read what I said. It makes no sense for them to announce a game when the other has yet to have previews or ship. There is zero precedence of this.

Now if the game has been ready to go and it's one of those F2P drops, then okay. But a, "hey guys, we are announcing another game when you barely know anything about the game we announced prior to it," doesn't seem rational or logical.

This was a side project Bungie had been working on and the team that was working on it are now with PlayStation Studios. It has nothing to do with marathon.

TBF didn't Sony/Insomniac also announce Wolverine before major preview cycles for Spider Man 2?

I would not be surprised if Gummy Bear is shadow dropped and the promise of a bigger dedicated stream for Marathon is made today, personally.

Project Gummy Bears was recently shifted to a completely new studio under PSS. I don't believe the rumor.

Literally Marvel IPs when they are the most consistent release schedule devs they have.

Their own, just would seem odd and create a shit-storm without the other shipping first. You know it, I know it, and you know damned well you'd dive right into said storm.

As far as a shadow drop, yes, which is what I was arguing. But to announce another with zero info on the one prior, nah fam. That would be weird, unless they're shifting strategies.

Now what if it's a return to roots game with their Halo-like single player portion.

That would definitely be fit for the 'return to form' tag. But something tells me Bungie isn't doing a dedicated SP campaign for this, just a hunch.

Can we just not talk about South of fucking Midnight in this thread

Sadly we're probably gonna see a good bit of that with various people (mainly astroturfers) using future PS events to speculate about "oh here comes the next Xbox port!" like it's still a shocking event or something to dominate the news cycle.

It isn't. Yeah it was surprising and a big deal when they started the initiative, but now it's just a new normal and I think it should be treated as such. Microsoft bringing a game to PS or Switch shouldn't suddenly dictate everything stop to focus on that, unless the game itself is quality enough to earn it.

Even then, if it's a late port, I don't think that qualifies given the main surprise or energy with that game would've been when it was originally released (that shouldn't have any impact on potential sales of the game on the platform getting the port now, though. Unless that platform has a heavy demographic crossover with the one that got the game first).

I also don't like that it would set up a space where the same Xbox shills/influencers/astroturfers who kept pushing FUD for all these years, suddenly think they get a seat at the table and can influence online discourse around PlayStation stuff by using Xbox ports as a catalyst. Like, hell no. You MFers morphed to every talking point MS wanted to put out for ABK, Zenimax, and just general console-warring & FUD against PS since before this gen even started. Go sit at the kid's table and let the people who weren't enabling that crap/spreading FUD/console-warring for money take charge.

And it just happens to be, those who would take charge don't put Xbox games or what MS are doing on a pedestal. Just from what we know so far, South of Midnight getting a PS5 port doesn't merit being put on a pedestal; what if it's another RedFall? Another Starfield? Hellblade 2 getting a PS5 port sure as hell doesn't deserve a spotlight unless it's a straight-up remake adding some actual substance to the game.

When it comes to commanding attention, Microsoft had it easier when they still prioritized Xbox hardware as their only (or main) gaming focus. The competition's only tougher now that they're basically a multiplatform publisher.
