Kai always came across as bi to me or more “whatever” like the alien in Paul. You can actually romance him whether you’re male or female.
Nah I think you see what you see based on the character changes, he’s definitely been straight up til this point, I haven’t heard him say a single thing to show a gay or bi side.
Oh well I have the choice to kick him out now anyway so it is what it is.

He's definitely not gay and certainly more "whatever" like you said, when meeting yatzli for the first time you can joke about having an orgy, and he responds with "I'll try everything twice", and after the conversation he even says "I've got a few inches to spare if she changes her mind ;)".
You even kinda guide his relationship in his personal quest, so if he turned out "gay", it's because of the dialogue choices you made.

He flirts with male and females. He is clearly bisexual because as I said, you can actually romance him with either gender.

There is quite a lot of inclusive material in the characters and writing, fx on letters you find. It occurred to me at one point that orlans are basically furries 🤣

As long as its not pushed on my character I dont care. Ive been wanting to play Baldurs Gate 3, but Ive heard that your team members try to romance you and its putting me off playing the game. Which is a damned shame, as I love Forgotten Realns lore.

In Avowed so far, youre more like a witness to other peoples relationships.

Most games do that; it's a way of having more variety in potential romanceable characters without locking them into specific sexual preferences.

I've seen this mentioned twice - I didn't see any dialogue options that didn't seem homosexual. Explain?
I haven’t finished that quest line but there was a choice to say something like:
”Because he was a friend?”
…instead of…
”Because you loved him?”

I tried to push him to just be a friend. We’ll see if they force him to be gay anyway.

Just reached the third area now. And the game looks better than ever!

Took down Captain Aelfyr and her whole gang, plus the Steel Garrote in the cave, they tried to burn down the city but from choices there the city was saved. Hero of the day!

This game is so much better than I expected!

Yes, you can try, but best I can tell his responses still make it obvious. IMO.

Same, I couldn't resist whacking them all.

But they aren't romanceable.

Moving so slowly last few days, but making some progress. Enjoying this "Shark's Teeth" area!

Best high fantasy graphics I have seen in years. Anyone who doesn't have excitement to explore these places has no place at my D&D table for sure.
Absolutely epic photos. The visual design in this game is really something else!
Yeah it looks amazing. I have a ton of photos too but not playing the Steam version means I have to dig out the screenshots from somewhere else, not sure where they go.

And what’s wrong with people regarding the constant complaints? I saw someone say that the visuals are repulsive. Wut?

Feels like the whole internet have the wrong opinion on this game for some reason. I don’t get it.

At this point, even with the sudden Kai gayness and the lack of interactivity, I wouldn’t rate this below 8/10. If anything I’ll go higher.

And just to get some perspective. I’m closing in to my 50s, I grew up playing games like Master of Magic on the C64…

This was great btw. Like, really great. Time flies…

Apart from having bizarrely ugly character models (the eyes especially look 'odd' in my opinion), bland companions and a completely forgettable storyline, not helped by it using reams of terminology that has me scratching my head trying to remember what is what (and, seriously, who really enjoys reading dozens of notes to flesh out the storyline?), this game is otherwise an adequate my-first-RPG. I admit that I've been enjoying exploring the three or four large open maps I've discovered during my 30+ hour playthrough so far. Also, I keep wanting to come back to it to finish it so there is definitely something there.

I just wish more effort had been put into making interesting companions and a compelling story. The framework is there, it's just that the writing, the lack of any kind of moral system (I literally loot anything even in front of NPCs without any consequences) and the tedious need to read countless notes just makes this an average RPG. In my opinion, it is best to just play this as an action game and just ignore the story altogether. As an RPG the game feels half-baked in my experience.

My score so far is 6/10. Easily Obsidian's weakest RPG yet in my opinion. Was this made by an inexperienced B team at Obsidian or something? The quality of their other games simply isn't there in Avowed.

Yeah that’s so weird.
And the Yatzli character said something like:
”- You realize that I can see you going through my backpack, right?”
But nothing happened.
Why not just cancel my action and throw in a cutscene where she smack my head:
”- Don’t touch my stuff!”
???

I like the story consequences, I think it’s rewarding to see things go a different way when you put some time into the dialogues. I’ve reloaded and tried different outcomes in some conversations and I’m surprised by the changes.
Still can’t judge if anything is carried all the way up til the end though, but so far I like what I’ve seen.

Maybe the humor is better in The Outer Worlds I don’t know but the combat and map layout and exploration is leagues ahead in Avowed as far as I’m concerned.

So far, 45 hours and just reached the 3rd area, it’s an 8 or 8.5 for me. Started out as a 7 so for me it’s just getting better the more I play.

I’ve got used to the lack of interactivity. Enemy variety is the biggest letdown right now. And the lack of rewarding loot, they put all the good stuff as quest rewards and mostly leave upgrade parts and regular gear without stat boosts as exploration rewards. Western developers in general need to play more Elden Ring, there are so many things in that game that is industry best that could be easily copied.

So uh thought I ask here since im having no luck. Just got my rtx 5070 ti pc and downloaded the gamepass version to continue my save from series x. I wanna try mfg to boost AND limit my framerate to 120 fps from 60 fps but the in game frame limiter is greyed out when I select mfg on.
Any ideas? Or is it just not possible. Playing on 1440p.

Use NVCP Frame Limiter.

I actually think that UE5 if use right it looks great. The Matrix demo and Hellblade 2 look incredible for example

For me it depends if devs actually optimized for how it looks. I love UE5 when it runs well. Wukong was amazing. The path tracing mode was too hard compared to ID tech's Indiana Jones, but still that is a complex game with nanite to path trace for Wukong.

Avowed is imho, well optimized considering UE5.

The lighting in this game is something else. I don't think I've seen such a coherent lighting from day to night, indirect lighting and with little to no artifacts. Performs good too. Probably the most impressive I have seen with UE5 lighting to date. The desert make it so high contrast during the day between where the sun hits and the shade. I can't imagine what this could have been with proper HDR.

Love the 3rd area so far. Whomever designed this world with the parkour and esthetic design of it all at Obsidian needs a raise. Incredible job.
Omg the colors, ewwwwww

This looks great!

Sure does. I think the more peoples will play this the more it'll have long term positive feedback.

Having imagined Pillars of eternity 1 & 2 or Torment tides of numenera from an isometric view, having a dev trying a go at high fantasy in 3D with these graphics is amazing imo. The game has cons for sure, but graphics ain't it.

what's interesting here is not how good things look up close but how well the detail is preserved at distance and how stable the picture is due to no LOD swaps and absolutely minimal pop in. Which is why those vista shots is where its at. Not a poster child for UE5 as a whole but surely one for Nanite

Final part is really hard, i'm level 26 and suffering a lot.
Sounds great tbh! I’m level 16 on the third area and I wiped out the biggest Xaurips camp I’ve ever seen without dying once. There is still some challenge occasionally but I do worry that doing all side quests will get me OP.

Those Damaged Maegfolc and Pristine Maegfolc are a major step up in difficulty in that area. Quite possibly the biggest difficulty jump anywhere in the entire game. It was rough playing as a pure mage, even with manually having Kai taunt every time it was on cooldown. It was easier on my second playthrough melee build character because once I got the timing down to block and parry I got them stunned pretty quickly (but also kept Kai around to taunt off me if necessary).

There never has been and never will be a Bethesda RPG with level design this good. They simply don't care enough about it as a skill. "500% bigger than our last game!"

100% this I'm playing as a pure mage.

Anyone found a way to make DLSS4 work on game pass version? nvidia app and dlss swapper doesnt seem to work. Pretty annoying
I get tons of artifacts on shadows with DLSS 4 so I would recommend doing the 3.10.4 the other person in this thread recommended

My score is 4. The loot system is dooky too and after KC2 its embarassing to play

And to think there are people on this very forum who call this an ugly game.

smh
Repulsive even 😆

I think the dumbest complaint was that it looked procedural generated with no handcrafting.

In reality this is among the most handcrafted maps I’ve experienced. There is stuff everywhere placed with care to spark your curiosity. It’s up there with Indiana Jones as some of the better map layouts out there. Light years ahead of The Outer Worlds. And the parkour is superb and it’s unusually vertical without feeling janky or restricted.

I’m just genuinely impressed by it. Can’t stop playing. 46 hours now.
